here are some testrenders of my latest project: a temple for Poser (along with an OBJ version for use in any 3D app). Tell  me what do you think ??

I am still working on the texturing and some details here and there ...

Great building ... you know in original ancient days  these had been fully colored ...

Yokasobi ( ) posted Mon, 17 May 2010 at 9:28 PM

Very cool!

JoEtzold— don't you think the white limestone was still white though?

I do agree, there would likely have been a mural of some sort on the gables.

Any plans for statues to go inside? Such would be marvelous.

it looks very good IMVHO.
is there any indication that poser 8 or later has difficulty rendering those long, narrow triangle facets
(polygon faces) in some conditions?

Yokasobi ( ) posted Mon, 17 May 2010 at 10:25 PM

Oh, yes, one more thing. Are you modelling it as having straight lines, or applying all the little tricks (convex surfaces) of the Greeks?

whipporwill ( ) posted Tue, 18 May 2010 at 5:43 PM

wow! looks great!

Quote - don't you think the white limestone was still white though?

  For me it would be enough but the experts are sure there was color over and over.  Hm, not at every temple but often ...

Just have seen a documentation in TV bout Pericles and Athens and those buildings ...

Hm, it reminds me strongly to today's situation ... in the end they have been out of money ...  May be that was the reason they did not buy the water resistant color proofed for 2000 years ...

Yokasobi ( ) posted Tue, 18 May 2010 at 8:43 PM

Of course that was why.

So, were the pyramids also painted?

Apple_UK ( ) posted Tue, 18 May 2010 at 11:52 PM

Nice work

Miss Nancy ( ) posted Wed, 19 May 2010 at 2:42 PM

the greeks painted their temple carvings, but the egyptians used white plaster to
coat their pyramid surfaces AFAIK.  mayans also painted temple carvings.

... here is a close-up I did from the temple, with a beautiful girl in front of it. At the moment the temple has no interior, I just added a waterplane to get some kinda spa. And - no - the pillars don't have any sophisticated carvings - just a simple texture along with a bump map. Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I was 2 weeks out - and very busy - let's see how I'll proceed with my project ...

here you can see a full size pic (nudity advisory):

It's coming along nicely!

I'm interested to see what you do on the interior.
