I'm really new to all of this. The best that I've been able to do so far has been with sculptris. The drone took a half hour the green face took an hour.

MidnightCarnival ( ) posted Sat, 29 May 2010 at 7:28 AM

Ha! You guys are all kicking ass with this stuff! I definitely do not have mastery over 3D like you guys do.

I think it's cool that your cartoon styles reflect in your models as well.

I've recently made a start on a Liquid Oxygen Truck from the 1970's TV series, Captain Scarlet.

Although the 3d model isn't going to fully detailed it will be made to accurate overall dimensions so that drawings can be made for making a real studio scale model.

The real thing makes use of the 1960's Johnny Express cab and dump truck body parts. Old Johnny Express advert at YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEvOhnDdy64

Thanks Guys. **Shawn** - Your Pinnace is coming on a treat. **AirFlames -** I was trying to get an old 1970/80's ABC Warriors look. Started something new this morning. Can you tell Make and Model yet? Z

Its not a ford capri but something close.

Whats your technique here zikeo as a matter of interest?

ZIKEO ( ) posted Fri, 04 June 2010 at 4:12 PM

Hi AirFlames.
I had a 2000S Capri when I was a kid.

The car I'm basing this model on.
Is one of my kid brothers 2.7ltr Honda engined 270hp before nitros car.
He tends to eat BMW's. :)

As for Technique, I tend to box out the whole car and then start refining the edges and details till something starts to look okay.
Failing that. I bin it and start again.

Did Rover at that time did some partnership with honda? Nice work I really can't do a lot of those cuts in messiah my renderer because of how it handles edges. What are you  doing it in. Anyways I got more work done on the barracuda. I was going to go with the original script writing on the side but in order to get it looking good it would have more polygons in the lettering than the rest of the car.

So I took the insignia that was on some earlier cudas and put that on the side. That one is only about 100 polygons.Got a bit more of a mood light going on too. Also likethe red better. The Mopar green is more of a 70's color not really a 68 color.

Was using an entire planet at first.  Then replaced it with just a plane, since this is all I was rendering of it anyway.  So second render went much quicker.  No postwork here.

HI Guys. **Dann-O -** To answer your question about poly count on the ROVER. One door handle alone has a poly count of over 300 after 2 stage smoothing as does the door panels each. So door panels and handles alone weigh in at about 2400 before taking anything else in.

Started a new car (yet again) model.
This time it is for a mate's birthday. He used to have one of these in the early 90's and now can't aford one.
Any guesses?

Well I will venture a guess a Volkswagen Sirrocco. Now a closer look probably not it is something not available in the states.

SawnDriscol do you know about the traveller calender? That would be quite at home there.

Not an ol' Datsun (Nissan) is it?

Shape vaguely reminds me of a 510, but after cross referencing on Wikipedia, it's a lot more of an 810.

I'm learning about materials and how hard they are to import into other programs.

This is Metasequoia and GMax to Sculptris to Softimage Mod Tools to Meshlab to UV Mapper back to Metasequoia and ending up in Blacksmith 3D (after having making stop off in about four other programs where things just didn't jive.).

MidnightCarnival ( ) posted Sun, 13 June 2010 at 6:38 AM

ZIKEO ( ) posted Sun, 13 June 2010 at 12:35 PM

Thanks Midnight.

Primarily I use Amapi Designer 7 for most of the modelling.
And then transfer to Carrara 8Pro for domains, UV, Etc. Etc.

Thought I was getting through this one quite quick.
Then I realised I hadn't done any bleedin door handles!!

I think I'm getting the hang of creating torsos.

The basic shape was formed in Mod Tools, exported to fbx, then exported to obj, cleaned up in Meshlab, mapped in UV Mapper and finally imported in to Sculptris for the finer details.
