Recently picked up an older version of Turbo Cad (ver 10) from Purplus for less then $20.00 however I find myself lost in the application....

Links in the app to online tutorials are no longer working... Can anyone refer me to online tutorials or a good book on Turbo Cad?

Thanks kindly...

Ken

This site looks like it should get ya started

Can't say as I've used any CAD products - I think they're more for engineering and architecture than fun stuff. =)

Thanks but no thanks...most of those links are broken.... I'm looking for working links aimed at a Turbo Cad newbie...

Google is did not find anything of use... So I'll ask once again.... any good links for Turbo Cad 10?

It is because of responses like the above that I've becoming more & more  hesitant to ask for help at Renderosity...

I bought v 9 several years ago for only $10 and spent about three years searching for free tutorials without much luck.  The few I did try created models that didn't import into Blender or Studio very well either.  I did register my copy and have been getting E-mails to update or buy training DVDs.  I just stopped using it for 3D and used instead as a form of electronic graph paper.   What I am say is that if you got it cheap enough and really want to learn to use it your probably going to have to spend some more money.

TurboCAD tuts are not free, unfortunately, because of the users getting certified in TurboCAD and wanting to make money teaching new users.  I just read the manual and learned chapter by chapter.

It's because of attitudes like that that fewer and few people respond to questions. Politeness will get you a lot more help than sarcasm or attitude... I'd hesitate before making a remark like that.

So it's ok to post links that do nothing or don't work in response to someone's question? I think not....

That link took me here:

lots of CAD info in all of those links.

Not sure what you were expecting...

Now click on those links. Most do not work....

Sorry but I've been a member here for over 9 years and I seldom have an issue with another member let alone harsh words but replies like that drive me crazy....

Now click on some of the links. I believe the first three work but most after that do not...

Sorry if I offended anyone, I'm just suggesting people try their links before posting them... I actually found that site via google prior to posting here....

I'll leave this to a moderator to deal with.

Rude is rude. Someone posted a response. Just say "thank you". I've gotten responses that didn't answer my questions or took me to dead links and I didn't throw a tantie straight-away. Sheesh.

Not throwing a tantrum...just asking people post links that work. That's all... Test 'me before you post 'em.... How is that a bad thing?

That unfortunately is Renderosity's major demographic here on the forums.

Once in a blue moon though you can find a post someone left on the TurboCAD forums pointing to their site that shows a free trick.

Sorry, man. I should've investigated the site more before providing the link. That's the only thing that I could manage to Google that looked like it had a lot of info on Turbo CAD.

MidnightCarnival ( ) posted Sat, 19 June 2010 at 4:58 AM

Using common sense I probably should've realized that you did the Google thing but I know sometimes you can enter searches and come up with nothing and then rephrase those searches with one or two different words and hit the motherload.

I'm guilty for smart-arse humor but I never intentionally direct it at one anyone personally or specifically.

I wasn't going to reply but didn't want this thread to drop with a zero count. But will admit that I only spent about five minutes searching and that looked to not only have a lot of info but also to be lost in time back during Turbo CAD's limelight years. =)

No problem....your heart was in the right place and I do appreciate the effort... I was hoping to hear from a Turbo Cad user who knew of or used a free tutorial site....

Perhaps Turbo Cad isn't for me and will remain gathering dust... I'm alreadying using too much software...

Paint Shop Pro
Painter
Art Rage
Hexagon
Wings3D
Google Sketchup
Sculptris
3D Coat
Vue Pro Studio 8
Cinema 4D ver 6
Inkscape (not too versed)
Canvas (not too versed - maybe vector art isn't for me LOL)

I mostly do 3D stuff during the winter as in the summer I do photography....

Cheers

Ken

Hey thanks, man. You've just given me an idea for a thread. It would be cool to see what everyone uses!

It's been forever since I messed with that software... I'm sure the box is gathering dust somewhere. Sorry no links though.

I'll offer my opinion on what I remember of it. (It's based on whatever version I bought back in '99 or so, they may have made some improvements since.):

What it's good at: It's good at making 2D drawings for things like floor plans or stamped part cutouts. It's a drafting tool which could be thought of as a more specialized vector drawing program. So in a way it's like InkScape or Illustrator, but with the ability to assign angles, dimensions, and markings useful for technical drawings. Comes with some preset templates like architectural/landscaping markings or gear patterns, which could be a nice touch if that's what you need.

What it sucks at: Doing 3D stuff. It's not AutoCAD. If you want something to "draft" in 3D with, these days you're honestly much better off using Google Sketchup. TurboCad can output to .dwg or such, but these are primarily 2D paths. So they'd need more work with extrusion or building out in another 3D program. (I wonder if that's still the case, I wouldn't be too terribly surprised if it's still like that with the basic version.)

Back when I bought it, I wanted to do 3D stuff on the computer at low cost. The box was a little misleading and back then there weren't all the options and info on the internet that there are today. Once I discovered Bryce 4 and Anim8or, I moved on. Of course since then, I found Wings3D to be much better for the kind of modeling I like doing.
