Subject: Landscape Generating Software?....Vue?.....

There are those who have stated that Vue is only good for landscapes, or those who say Vue is no good for "abstract" work, and even those who have stated that Vue isn't as good with indoor scenery and/or photo-realism attempts as Bryce. The link above leads to a truly astounding piece of Vue art, and, knowing who this is who has done it, I know it has not been post-worked at all. 'scuse me while I go practice some more.....

Incidentally, this person is also credited in the Acknowledgements on page 324 of the Vue 4 manual, and is a regular winner of the E-on POTD, as is Guitta. I truly feel it is one serious honor to have such talented people posting in our gallery here. :)

Oh, c'mon Mike anybody can see that's just a picture, that's not really Vue d'Esprit... :) Just kidding...:) Yeah, that's really an outstanding piece of work... Makes us all wanna practice more... :) No wonder they're a regular winner of the E-on POTD... Probably gets the prize twice a day.. :)

Wow, good one to point us to, Mike! Everything in it is so perfect, and then the lighting hits ya as a kind of double-wow.

Wadus ( ) posted Fri, 03 August 2001 at 10:17 PM

I have Vue 2 but I dont use it enuf. but I must say that pic is awesome...have you checked out the rest of his/her gallery? it rocks

That's Pascal Marie...

Varian ( ) posted Fri, 03 August 2001 at 10:56 PM

He is a definite rocker. :)

gebe ( ) posted Sat, 04 August 2001 at 2:36 AM

Pascal Mari(Kiki) is with Vue d'Esprit "since ever" and alwais has made great computer art! But as he has no known site... It's a pitty. He effectively never does post work and is a great artist with its own style. We should not forget Nicholas Phelps himself, the only creator of Vue d'Esprit in 1995 (time before e-onsoftware was born), who made the beautiful picture on the box of Vue 4 and lots of others you can find on the CD's from version 2 on. :-)Guitta

MikeJ ( ) posted Sat, 04 August 2001 at 2:53 AM

And, as long as we're not forgetting Nicholas Phelps, we should also not forget you, Guitta. :) For some of us (such as ME!) you ARE Vue! And that sentiment goes out to not only you, but of course to Nicholas Phelps, Patrick Guignet, Orio Menoni (Gotta love Orio--- even when he's too busy to talk!), Varian and Bloodsong, and Martin, and Karl, and others.... And were it not for all of you, I would know nothing about Vue d'Esprit at all. :)

Magnificent!

riversedge ( ) posted Sat, 04 August 2001 at 3:14 PM

I must agree that the rendering is just really beautiful. It is a technical masterpiece. Even an iconoclast such as myself would have only a few issues with it...... Well done Kiki, whoever, wherever you are. Riv

Just two things... Well I'm going back to the drawing board...this image is stunning. In fact I'm going to have to mail him about compensation, for the broken keyboard that occured from my jaw hitting it so hard :D Secondly Mike you are confirmed as being mad. If you mean me, when you mention Martin amongst those great names, then apart from being speechless I'm also a bit concerned about your sanity...all I want to do is help people when I can, and show Vue off to the best of my ability. I still feel that I can do a lot better than I've been able to manage so far...on both counts. Thanks again Mike :) Cheers

Well I think it's perfectly fine to see my name in the list, but hey, only fourth place? (Fifth, counting Pascal). I feel cheated...hmph. lol ;>

Daffy34 ( ) posted Sat, 04 August 2001 at 8:09 PM

My jaw is on the floor. I've always loved Pascal's work before, but this is a masterpiece. I'm sooooo humbled. Maybe in a few years I'll be able to do this well with Vue 8. ;) Laurie

MikeJ ( ) posted Sat, 04 August 2001 at 10:46 PM

Aww, I forgot to mention Laurie! You're right Varian, fourth place is wrong for you, so I'm moving Laurie into 4th place and now I also realize that Martin should have been up higher, so now Laurie's #4, Martin's #5 and you can have #6. Any more comments? MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! ;)

Hey if it's any consolation, I use your plant materials an awful lot! I made my first Vue 4 animation today. I animated a fern changing from the normal Vue 4 fern into your "golden" fern over a period of 5 seconds. easy, and quick, really, though I only rendered it in Preview, but really it didn't turn out too bad... pretty good really, considering I put the least amount of effort possible into it. :) I'll upload the 300 KB .avi file whenever I can finally get ahold of my ISP tech people to tell me again what my ftp address is. ;/

Varian ( ) posted Sun, 05 August 2001 at 10:28 AM

Hey, it sounds cool. :) And yeah, IP addresses, mail addresses, all those passwords....get 'em on paper as soon as you get 'em again. They'll be ready for the next time -- if there's a next time -- but we'll keep fingers crossed hoping there's no next time!

tradivoro ( ) posted Sun, 05 August 2001 at 11:08 AM

Yes Guitta and Varian, it was thanks to the works and websites of mostly you two that influenced me greatly into buying Vue... It was very positive beautiful art, with a character that can only be gotten from Vue... I said, "yeah, I want to get into this"... :) So, thanks...

MikeJ ( ) posted Sun, 05 August 2001 at 12:47 PM

I think most of us are quite proud of the overall "classy" (for lack of a better word) aura surrounding Vue d'Esprit. Ya just gotta love Vue's rendering ability. It has it's quirks, for sure, but I envision a (maybe not-so-distant) future version of Vue as being a serious MONSTER in the professional 3D rendering world. :)

I have bought just about every terrain generator program available(Bryce5,Terragen,World builder,3DSMAX,Carrara,RayDream Studio)And to be honest,to this very day I havent seen such awesome work.Vue is (to my knowledge the only software that i know of that can do ALL.Landscape,Indoors(The installation cd has an awesome slide show with some shots done with Vue.)stills,underwater,etc.At one time Bryce was unbeatable, but that was a long time ago, even Bryce5 cant compare(Dont bother with Bryce5, not enough new features to justify spending $150.00)The best thing about Vue is the price,How can you beat this?True, you can programs with more features and power, but you'll pay dearly for them(3D studio max $3,500)My advice to those debating which to buy...Vue d' esprit!!!!!!
