Subject: Where would a Noob have to start?

stoli4 ( ) posted Sun, 11 July 2010 at 9:33 AM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 3:53 AM

Alright, i think I'm hooked on gaming and computer grapics, so now i'm faced with having my new found addiction pay for itself.

I could use some direction to ground myself and my goals, so if anyone has any idea as to where go, who to talk to or disciplines i could start with it would be great.

My current stand point is a burning curiosity of digital animation. I have started with UDK, figured out that my own material needs other programs. The other programs that are in my possession are Corel Draw and adobe Photoshop.

I'd love to hear from anybody willing to help,

Thanks

You can start here, look in the tutorial section per your questions.  Does that help....example, Poser, go to Poser tutorials etc.

PS: or just ask

okay, thanks, will that tutorial also explain lingo of the social structure in the field?? i.e.: Poser, my guess is that its term used for noob and non-industrial type??

There are a lot of free fractal programs....

http://www.eclectasy.com/Fractal-Explorer/

http://www.apophysis.org/

http://www.chaospro.de/

http://www.chaoscope.org/

http://uberto.fractovia.org/

Plus these are great desktops.  Ultra Fractal is the best 'pay for' software.

Have fun! (:

Hello stoli4 :)

Poser is a program that many of us use to make human 3D people (and some animals). In the 3D world it is considered rather easy. (see my gallery).

lol q-:  I just zoomed around to find those others.   I bought UF, and that's my specialty.  Started with KPT flames 'n' fracs, then Apophysis.  UF's my pick of the litter.  They should put this one over at the fractal forum, because that's where I got several.  Someone should tell Tresamie or DreamWalker.

Thanks though! (:

Not only peruse here, looking through the galleries (from specific software - Poser, 3DS Max, Cinema 4D, etc. - to genres - Realism, Fractal, Atmosphere, Fantasy, etc.), lurking the forums, but go outside the site as well - I'd suggest going to your nearest large bookstore and grabbing copies of 3D World and 3D Artist magazines, as well as HDRI 3D.

Once you start figuring out what's what, tools most often used for whatever you're looking to do (this alone is so wide open a topic - I think you should look around and figure out what directly interests you.

Once you've got a discernible direction and realize you specifically need to learn THIS to go forward, I'd suggest checking out thegnomonworkshop.com (actually ore professional level training) and geekatplay.com - while the latter is mostly Vue related, they have a handful in Poser to Cinema 4D to Modo.

I hope this helps - good luck and welcome to the awesome world of CG!

Thanks everyone, i am curious what relation does fraturals have in animation? I thought fractural were just  plots and points in mathematical equations

ThunderStone ( ) posted Tue, 13 July 2010 at 4:59 PM

Fractals, if done right, can create astounding, incredible art. See the fractal gallery here

You can animate fractals.  I don't do that, so I'm not sure of the technique.  You might find something about that over at ultrafractal.com.

You might just want to google it. lol q-:

Although I think you are looking into more traditionally thought 3D animation (characters, machines, etc.) it's good to look through ALL the galleries to figure out things you like - you never know. It's a matter of deciding WHERE you wanna get your feet wet, get it?

But the Gnomon School is where I would go looking for training for animation. Then maybe digital-tutors.com as well - they have a subscription service

Quote - what kind of fractal is it call when you enter just a number and come up with a square of 1 and 0.

Might be better to put that question to the Fractal Forum
