Subject: How to unhide dials?

Neyjour ( ) posted Fri, 16 July 2010 at 9:39 PM · edited Fri, 08 November 2024 at 10:11 AM

I've noticed that several props and figures I've been using are missing dials, which in some cases makes it extremely difficult or impossible to work with them.

For example, the Anime Hair by SWAM & Bobbie 25 (from DAZ) is missing all of the Translation and Scale dials.  Is there any way to unhide/retrieve them?

If you are dealing with dials that are actually MISSING, you'll need to put them back in somehow - you can do this with a text editor, but it's easier with a proper CR2 editor, with which you can just drag/drop large chunks of text without worrying about which { or } you are inside or out of.

For unhiding channels, you can do that much easier in a text editor; just search for the limb name -> search for the channel name -> search for the string "hidden" and make it zero (1 = hidden, 0 = visible).

Or you can use Dimension 3D's free script to do it:

Yeah a script is a lot simpler, as long as the channels are actually there (some people do actually delete them).

Are the translate dials missing from the body actor ?  its fairly common to hide dials that a user should not use on individual parts but you would need translate on the Body actor to fit it to other figures.

There are a number of unhide scripts in freestuff or the poser python forum.

I'm not sure what you mean by "body actor" but the hair is just a prop and has no other parts to select.  It's got some morphs to alter the hairstyle and fit to other characters, but M4 is not one of the options, and that's the figure I'm trying to fit it to.  With those Translation and Scale dials missing, I'm finding it impossible to fit it properly.

Thanks for the link to the script.  I'll give that a try and see what happens.  Hopefully they've just been hidden and not removed entirely...

Oops, was assuming it was a rigged figure - if it's a prop you're right, it won't have a Body.

Thanks for the link, but unfortunately it didn't work.  I keep getting this error message:

"The program can't start because MSVCR71.dll is missing from your computer.  Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

I tried installing Poser to a different directory, thinking that I could just copy that file over to the previous one, but no such file exists in the new install either.  sigh

Guess I'll just have to try some others...

I'd forgotten just how annoying and stressful Poser can be at times.  Heh. :P

Thats a C runtime module which should be on your system if you are running winxp. Its possible you have a different version or something happened to the instal. The links below tell you what you can try to fix it. It should be in c:systemwindows32 on a 32 bit windows system. There may be other copies as well. BE VERY CAREFUL with the registry fix. the first link may be easiest. http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?msvcr71 http://www.instant-registry-fixes.org/how-to-fix-msvcr71dll-errors/ Dont get involved in the free scan options at those links. If you are not certain of doing this then dont :)
