Can't seem to get "Pose Dots" working, tried pg.44 of the manual...

To use Memory dots:
Set up your pose, cameras, and/or interface (UI) the way you 1. want them.
Use the pull-down menu to select the dot type, as described 2. above.
Click an empty memory dot. This dot will appear full, as shown 3. to the right:Figure 4.13
To use a dot, simply click it. The stored settings are applied to your scene. To clear a memory dot (delete its information and make it appear empty again), press and hold [OPT]/[ALT] while clicking the memory dot you wish to erase.

Works for UI dots, but if I save a pose to a dot then move the animation slider change pose, then move animation slider more, and select the dot I just saved, the pose is not copied to my new animation frame, is there a trick I'm missing here?

Thanks,

Vanz
ps. UI dots work fine, I can quickly select between multiple UI's, but for some reason I can't make the Pose dot work?

It worked fine for me in Poser 7 , however on two occasions it didnt work until I reselected the figure.

Remember to set keyframes .

Thanks, that helped me out.

I think I'm having the same problem. In Poser 6, I could copy a pose from one frame to another by saving it to a pose dot. Now, in Poser 7, that seems not to work - the pose dot saves, but applying it does nothing. It may possibly be saving frame 1 every time, irrespective of the actual frame number set, but I haven't done any experiments yet to try and narrow it down.

As a workaround I save into the pose library instead. I keep a library category called "Saves" which is purely for temporary use, and can be cleared out once the project is finished.

There's also the option of "Memorizing" it with Edit->memorize->figure

Fwiw the pose dots works again in PP2010, I just used one the other day.

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

I use the pose library as well, I can never remember what I put where with the pose dots.  O also tend to cut and paste keyframes instead of applying a pose , its just a work method I got used to.

I just tried it on P6 and P7, using James and Simon respectively and the stock poses, and it worked. Maybe it only fails when you need it to work... :(

That doesn't do what's wanted here though TG. Memorize sets the default pose of the figure, i.e. the one you get when you select Restore from the same menu. I suppose it could be used as a pose memory, but at the expense of breaking the figure's default pose which could be important if you use IK.

That sounds useful, but I have to admit I don't know how to copy a complete keyframe, and messing about in the keyframe editor didn't get me anywhere. I suppose I could always read the manual, but when did that ever work? :)

I'm working on P8, is there a trick, like copy/paste? I move to a frame, hit the dot, then move to another frame, press the dot again and nothing happens? I even try to set a keyframe before pressing the dot and nothing happens...

Copying frame actually works okay in the animation palette... I'd still like to get he dots working though...

No trickery, no. Here's how I used to do it:

  • Go to the frame which has the pose I want.
  • Make sure the figure is selected.
  • Click on an empty pose dot. (and check that it "lights up")
  • Go to the frame where I want the pose.
  • Click on the pose dot that I just saved to.
  • Et voilà...

That's what I did last night in P6 and in P7, and it worked. I used to do it all the time, mainly when I wanted to use dynamic clothing on an existing scene, and had to transfer the pose to frame 30 so I could zero the figure at frame 1.

Except that now, it doesn't always work. Mainly late at night when I just want things to work, dammit, so I can finish up and go to bed.

Yeah, I'd like to be able to rely on the dots again. I'll continue looking into this.
