Subject: Renderosity Marketplace Selling Advice

icandy265 ( ) posted Wed, 25 August 2010 at 11:59 PM · edited Wed, 11 December 2024 at 7:54 PM

Hello I have quite a few products I'm interested in selling, but I'm not sure where to start? So what is some advice for things like the reviews and all that? I would greatly appreciate some advice, and I've already read the Marketplace information page and the Upload information page and all those, so I would just like some simple advice, thank you. Good day.

About what? The review system is for ppl that bought your product to leave feedback. MOST do not!!!
If they do 99% of the time it's positive, They do have to make the effort to go back and look up the product page and click through.
More effort then it's worth most times. But you can leave a response if you wish.
Outright hostility  though can be removed.

I believe as a new merchant your only allowed 3 products untill you reach 300 dollars in sales.
The one way around this limit is to partner with an established merchant.

Make banners- they really do help. Which reminds me- I got to get off my tookest and get mine uploaded again.

Oh- and don't think it's easy to make that first 300. Unless you have a super hot product it takes most people many months. This is a great hobby, but a great way to find the poor house. The real only way to do this as a liveing is to be hyper prolific in product production. In this one way texture makers have an easier time then modelers. It's easier to slap on many different texture to existing products then to actually make new models.

I don't agree with this...  It's probably a bit more difficult to sell those "slapped on textures" then it is to sell models because:

1-  "Slapped on textures" don't usually look all that great.  Good textures do take time.
2- They're addons which means only a percentage of those who bought the model will buy a set of textures to go with it.
3-There are much more textures vendors then there are modellers, more competition...  For one model, there will be 3-4 sets of textures in the store by different vendors, sometimes more.  Only those who have bought the model may buy one of those sets of textures, it's unlikely all the buyers of the model will buy all the sets of textures that were made for it.

I didn't mean to say there isn't skills involved.

But you did make my point:

*" For one model, there will be 3-4 sets of textures in the store by different vendors, sometimes more"

*My comment was about how prolific, how many products a merchant can post for sale. One character like V4 can generate 1000 texture sets. One dress can generate 25 or 50 texture sets. Yet they are still one model. If I could make 1000 models I'd retire. :)

Out of those 1000 texture sets though only a handful will actually generate sales that are half decent, those that are "easily" made, done quickly, slapped on will not sell very much.  There are more people who will try texturing instead of modelling, I'll give you that, because most already have the 2d software for it and at least a basic knowledge of that software and they figure they might as well try and see if they can sell some, but not so many qualify as good texture artists because only a few have invested the time to acquire the skills to make good textures.  For texture sets to sell I kinda think they have to be really well made, very unique and eye catching, or else they'll just stay on the shelf.

I guess this would be my advice to you, Icandy265, make sure your product looks good and is original and work just as hard on your promo images so that your product stands out from the rest in the mp, those images are what sells your product mostly.  Even if your product is excellent, if your promos aren't good, chances are your sales won't be either.  This is especially true when it comes to texture sets because there are so many in the store, a few good ones, lots of so so, make sure that in that ocean yours is amongst the few good ones and make sure your promos will make people notice that.  ;)

Thank you :) I make both textures and models, but I'm really interested in packages where they come with clothing, hair and textures, that's in fact what I'm working on at the moment. It won't be ready for promos for a while though because I'm not even gonna consider selling it until it is vertually perfect.

Thank you so much :)
