Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 24 11:54 pm)
1st I Deleted all of the folders, except Air and LuxPose.air in:
RuntimePythonposerScriptsPoserLuxExporter_alpha_1-10e
I did change the name of the folder from alpha_1-10e as AirLuxPose would then be looking for the uiCommands.bbml file.
I expanded All of PoserLuxExporter_alpha_1-11.zip into a seperate folder and then Cut & Pasted everything except the Air Folder and LuxPose.air into my
RuntimePythonposerScriptsPoserLuxExporter_alpha_1-10e folder.

Hmm...now that I explore this Google Wiki, I see it might be better to set things up as a blog where anyone in the world can comment. You can't on Google Wiki...you need an invite in order to comment...grrrr...
I feel a blog is not what you want though? It can have the same info, it's, well, just not a wiki ;o).

This is the Exported Poser8 SR3 Scene rendered for 2.3 hrs in LuxRender.
I used the Poser FaceCam and they look close to me.
What happened to the Shadows that were in my poser scene?

I am making a series of test and experiments with LuxRender.
I have other approach and work in an independent way, I don't use PoseLux and rely on Poser or Blender for export to Lux. I made a stand alone converter that converts any Poser, obj or 3ds files to LuxRender material and geometry files and it was finished and working.
My goal was not to make or take a scene in Poser and render it on Lux instead of firefly, I almost do not use firefly for my images! My goal was to test and use LuxRender for creating images.
Some comments:
Positive things about Lux.
Negative things.
About speed.
Rendering speed can be very fast or very slow depending on your luck.
You can know this in advance with this:
Once LuxRender has completed the loading of the scene and begins to render after some seconds you have two possible scenarios:
A- The image is very noisy, crappy and continue to be after some minutes.
You can be sure, it will take a very long time until you get something that is acceptable, if it is .
B- After few seconds appears an image and is good.
You have a fast rendering and the image will improve with time, but with insignifficant changes with more time.
When is A and when is B, you don't know. You can turn from A to B or from B to A changing a bit the illumination.
There also exist a third alternative.
C- You start with B, but after some minutes it turned dark and into A. This means that LuxRender got lost with its self adjustment, threw into the trash all good that was done and started again in a crappy way. The final result is unknown.
Stupidity also evolves!
YFI: this month (until yesterday) my site has had 1050 requests for the alpha package. I assume round about 300 people use LuxPose Alpha already (more than one download).
Some requester tried to find out how the package is delivered. There are several requests for URI's, different php and html pagenames.
So, for those who like to now:
I created a folder with name PoserLuxExporterAlpha. This folder contains the zip packages with all versions (most, I deleted some). A PHP script named index.php is the only file stored in this folder beside the packages. This script is called if an URI is requested without a filename (default). The script scans the directory and delivers the content of the zip file with the highest version number. That's all. And yes, you can request the reals packagenames for older versions.
Quote - You could probably just (ab)use the renderosity wiki, so no one has to sign up or go somewhere else...
Exactly. I was hoping Google Wiki wouldn't make you do that, but alas....they want more sheep for the flock I suppose. Anyway, it's not what I had in mind. I want anyone to be able to comment without any hassles or signups or invitations :o). So, Google's out.

Yes.

This seems to happen when I attempt to post 2 pictures in a single post by attaching a File.
Try this one out.

There's going to be a learning curve with Lux, that's just all there is to it. None of us will make exactly what we want until we're sure of what we're doing ;o). Shouldn't scare anyone off tho....or at least I hope not...lol.
And is there a floor in your LuxRender image mariner? I've found that the ground doesn't really go over, at least not in 8. Try putting a plane under your figure and see if that makes a difference.

If the last one is the Firefly render: How many lights are you using and what type?
Search for the lights in the exported data (.lxo at the top) and post the light part.

I used that Curved BG Prop from Colm's IDL Studio. So my answer would be there is a BGGround Prop.

This is right from Poser with two lights. I didn't hack the lxs file to add any sunlight or whatever :o).
And yes....the texture sucks (it's Daz's - I guess women don't have nipples ;o)).

downloaded tha latest exporter and I'm now getting this error in Lux. It is also saving the file as poserscene_alpha1.2 Before it was 1.0.3

K folks...start heading over to the LuxPose wishlist thread and start putting in your requests like bagginsbill asked. Maybe it'll make it into the exporter and/or the GUI ;o).

Sounds like something is going wrong. Did you get errors while running the exporter? It looks like the material file was not created or could not be found/opened.
Or did you open this file with another app (editor?) and this app protects the file?

**"Negative things.
- Lux render is not physically correct as their propaganda says.
"**
From the LUX site:"***Rendering with LuxRender means simulating the flow of light according to physical equations, thus producing realistic images of photographic quality."
Not to be contentious but "Physically correct" only means it uses that same real world
mathematical values that Photographers& cinematographers use to capture images of the REAL physical world.
If your scene does not look "Physically correct" it is likely a problem with your scene models/setup or your exporter.
Cheers
I think the problem was I forgot to remove the AO nodes, after I did that it worked fine. Sorry .

That and it's not finished? For the love of Mike....the programmers are working as fast as they damn well can. They're doing it for free. We can't fault them for having lives...
What do some of you want? Instantaneous? If that's the case, go buy Daz's plugin...
The only reason I'm here is to test the alpha, not whine because it's not done or completely full featured yet. Sheesh. So whoever said anything about what it doesn't have, well....
I can't get myself in trouble ;o).

Edit: oh, kawecki said it. Enough said.
I get the following error in unimesh.py:
nr_tpolys = sum([len(actor.Geometry().TexPolygons())
TypeError: len() of unsized object
I fixed that for me by changing lines 106-109 like this:
nr_polys = sum([len(actor.Geometry().Polygons())
for actor in actors if actor.Geometry().Polygons() and actor.Geometry().TexPolygons()])
nr_tpolys = sum([len(actor.Geometry().TexPolygons())
for actor in actors if actor.Geometry().Polygons() and actor.Geometry().TexPolygons()])
and adding the following after line 125: if not geom.Polygons() or not geom.TexPolygons(): continue
Just FYI the ** DAZ FINAL RELEASE

And we'll have that too - for free - given ppl stick around long enough ;o). Actually, it might even be better after BB really gets into the material conversions.

What did you pay for Poser?
I think it's not a bad deal for DS users,

odf has to update his lib after checking if this shortcut has no side-effect.
BTW: Wich geometry forced this error?

To be honest that is not a very impressive render at all
It seems many will have to learn indoor lighting with LUX.

We'll all have to learn...hehe. Lux is a whole different animal ;o). Poser and DS users are to used to "faking" things. We'll have to forget that ;o).

Quote - > Quote - > Quote - okies.. time to move operations to the other thread?
I was wondering myself....especially now that the Reality plugin for DS has been released. This thread's title might be a tad confusing.
Laurie
Perhaps we should stop answering questions here.
Yes, perhaps move on over to the LuxPose Project thread ;o).
Actually, there are three threads as of right now:
The one above, General LuxPose questions and LuxPose Wishlist.
Apparently no one has anything for the wishlist yet ;o).
Laurie
Well, just putting in a pointer to the Wiki entry about LuxPose then (the other threads about this Project will probably get listed there), before the thread is closed:
