Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 08 8:41 am)

Here's my first render from LuxRender, I didn't want to do anything too taxing for my first go, so I used the Daz Troll with a stock pose & default texture, with the IDL cove & a single white Infinite light, I left it to go for an hour & it's not too bad. Not too sure about the little green bubble on the floor though.
Windows 7 64Bit
Poser Pro 2010 SR1
In LuxPose, the way it will work is:
You'll be presented with a multi-column grid of all the materials in the scene. One of the columns will be what LuxPose will convert the material to automatically (if it can).
You will be able to sort and filter the list by figure name, actor name, material name, type of material LuxPose thinks it should be, and a couple other things.
You will be able to rearrange the materials into arbitrary groups, on the fly, or persistently. (These groupings can be saved.) Groupings will be presented as group boxes (into which you can drag materials to put them in the same group) or as a tree.
You will then be able to select any combination of individual materials or groups or tree branches.
With whatever the current selection is, you will be able to bump up or down the various parameters controlling diffuse, specular, etc. Or you can just reset them to any value if you want them all the same. Bumping them means they will retain their relative differences, but you can raise or lower them together, while preserving the relative differences. Pick the lips and bump up the specular. Then pick all the skin zones and bump up the specular a little more. This will not make it forget that you wanted a lot more on the lips.
Or, given any selection, you can select pre-defined materials from the Poser material library or from the LuxPose material library. If you choose a Poser material, you will have the option to write that back to the scene or just override temporarily. Choosing a Poser material will still involve a conversion, but it will not apply to rendering in Poser. Choosing a Lux material will not involve a conversion. It will use the Lux material preset. You will be able to use presets that we make using LuxPose, or you can get them from the Lux material library.
Having chosen a material from the library, you will be offered the chance to alter the parameters, just like poking around in the material room, but you won't be dealing with nodes. You'll just have a nice GUI full of sliders and color pickers and checkboxes and such.
You will be able to save these back as new presets.
You will be able to save these choices in the scene or just try them out.
You will be able to save multiple materials as LuxPose material collections, so that you can re-use them later. Unlike Poser material collections, these can be used across multiple props.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Would it be a handle perhaps? Although, I did have the same problem with leaving an item in the scene that was set to invisible in Poser. Showed up as a small ball on the floor. But mine was pink....lol. After I deleted the non-visible item, no ball ;o).

Holy crap! Have I said you're awesome? ;o)

Quote - Ok, I didn't realize that the Reality plugin switched the materials automatically without giving an option to keep the Daz mats.
There are times when I think I'd like to use a Luxrender material rather than a Poser mat, but I think I'd also like the choice as to whether I really want to switch them or not ;o). It should have been an option IMVHO.
Laurie
well when it comed to metals it replaces all metals with Lux gold , which you can then change to silver , copper or aluminium and you can tweak those metals to get other metals .
But its alot of mucking around to tweak those metals with such a small materials preview window , its really hard to see how much they change while tweaking :(
after reality has loaded the metals (all as gold) you can change the material to use the original image file instead but it only seams to work if you use a Mat option , using a gloss option the original image comes out as silver .
For example in a scene I have a rusty pipe using a jpg image and Lux converts it to gold .
I can get the original image to render by forcing reality to use the jpg image but only as a mat not as a gloss .
I have no idea why it dosnt work with gloss lol

sound really good :)
and this is a free plugin !
BB your blood is worth bottling :)
Laurie I'm not sure but I think it might be the light, I just overwrote the scene files with something else, I forgot to change the number in the GUI, I'll re-do it later & check the original thread for how to get rid of it.
ps BBill I asked about the Lux materials on the questions thread & you've just answered it here for me, did someone already say you're awesome?

I downloaded some free textures from mayang.com.
I attached the texture to Diffuse_Color and to Specular_Color. Both color chips were white.
Diffuse_Value was low, like around .1.
Specular_Value was very high, like 10 to 20.
Highlight_Size was around .1 to .15.

And LuxPose is on version 0.1. Imagine how they'll compare when LuxPose is 1.0. heheheh.

Quote - You guys are forgetting something. THe guy made VERSIOn 1.0 of Reality. Ther'es always a later version that makes things better.
At another added price as already stated there. Though some fixes are in the works. Hope that he has a way of getting it to the DS users or they may end up waiting for awhile/Daz soon.

Yep, there's a bug in the current version. I forgot a whole pair of parentheses, and now all the things that should not be visible are. I don't know why invisible things have geometry in Poser, but apparently sometimes they do.
Dizzi found the bug and the fix should be in the downloadable version very soon (I hope).
Me culpa! beats chest

Don't beat yourself up too badly, at least that one little mistake didn't stop it working altogether.

And with Dizzi's help, was super easy to fix...lolol. With Python, we can do that ;o).

Dizzi said:
"The code has a problem:
actor.Visible is used instead of actor.Visible()
That's why everything is getting exported.
Open poser_extractor.py
search for "good_actor"
two lines below add "()" behind "actor.Visible", so it reads "return (actor.Visible() and geom" "
Worked for me ;o).

We should prolly contain these kinds of posts to the dev thread ;o). That's the thread the programmers are probably watching the most :o).
