Subject: Why I prefer Renderosity's Marketplace

The business model is simply so much more buyer-friendly here at Renderosity.

Back in 2008, I bought an item from a vendor at the a competitor of Renderosity's.  

Competitor marketplace is the one which is directly accessible from inside Poser, now you know which one I am talking about.  

Said competitor marketplace still lists the vendor and the product which I had bought.

I found I needed to re-download the item, and sent off a request.

I got shot back with a standard corporate language reply effectively telling me I'm screwed if I didn't buy their extended download service (which is only worth a year only, anyway, and my purchase was 2 years ago, hellooo ).  

Also telling me that it's my problem I didn't archive the damn idiot product myself - all boo-boos are my problem not theirs.

Fine.  See if I care to buy anything any more from that place, if I can buy it elsewhere - not that it hurts them !

I am very annoyed and disappointed.

Well, it is one's responsibility to back up one's own purchases, isn't it? ;o).

But hard drive crashes and unintended/accidental deletions are still possibilities.

Besides, just about every other Poser marketplace allows for either eternal download with a set limit before needing a reset (Renderosity), or have an easy means of resetting downloads (DAZ).

Not to mention that most sites manage to overhaul their look on occasion (or frequently, for RDNA) but don't force their users to make new accounts instead of migrating the existing ones.

But what do you do if the website or the company goes defunct? You're just as screwed. It's a privilege that those sites allow resets, but it's not mandatory.

I must have at least 4 backups on various disks of each thing I've ever bought. I prefer not to depend on someone else to do it for me ;o).

If you lose a two year old cell phone for instance, is the company you bought it from going to give you a new one for free?

 To be fair, sites in the "Poser" community are unique in offering downloads for extended periods of time.  If something happens to the music I've downloaded from Amazon, if I didn't back it up, I've lost it. :/  Sucks, but, it's how it goes.

But, I take the appreciation in infinity10's post for what it is :D  Thank you.  I'll be sure to send the feedback on :D

Sometimes it's easier and quicker to just redownload it than look through 11 years worth of backup discs :biggrin:

Daz also has the reset function but what I like about Renderosity account management is that you can go back and search for a product by merchant as well, not just the name.   Sometimes I associate certain products with the vendor and it's easier to find them that way if you forget the exact name.

When I buy something or want a reset I expect my download within 5 seconds. If it's not. I expect the seller to bring it around to my house personally. Plus They should be crawling on bloodied stumps while being whipped by a French Dwarf in bondage gear.

The seller should also be pentant and beg for my mercy. I also want at least 10 million bucks in compensation for the valuable 3 minutes of my time I've wasted complaining in the forums of a completly different site. :)

Nothing personal to anyone here, but sometimes we expect, and demand too much, from our poser stores. We need to show more patience, and give more respect, to the people who make and sell our content.

 It's That Store's policy which hurts the merchants who sell there, if buyers get turned off.

We've just been spoiled and no longer can tell a privilege from necessity ;o). Those privileges may have made some maybe somewhat lazier than they should be.

 Folks, why are we ganging up on someone over their personal preference?  This is how unnecessary fights start.  Just sayin'.  If you don't like that he prefers to shop here because we keep your downloads on file, there's not much I can do about that.  But, seriously, is it worth the fight that is sure to follow?

I too appreciate the extended download from renderosity. Yes I know it is a priveledge. But sometimes a great boon.  Some of the products here get updated with each new release of Poser. Like Ralph Sesslers products.  I get the notices of the update but dont always get to redownload right away, sometimes even months go by.  There are times I have forgotten entirely. So the extended download is a big appeal for me.

Although I understand full well CP's policy is within the limit of their obligations, I'm with the OP on this one.  

We here in the Poser community may be uniquely privileged but CP's attitude leaves a lot to be desired. 

When it's the usual thing to offer downloads with no fuss and bother, it reflects badly on a company that doesn't.  It makes them the RyanAir of the Poser world.

I'm just sayin'.....it may not be what you intended, but that's what it's coming off as.  I'm all for opposing views, don't get me wrong.  It just seemed like there was a LOT of assumin' going on.

I actually sent feedback to CP regarding this exact same issue telling them that for me to purchase anything else from them, they need to instate a model where we can re-download our purchased items without having to purchase extended download service. I do buy the extended download on my Poser Software purchases, but only our of necessity, I don't have to do that at DAZ, I can always redownload it from them at will. Every other Major Poser content provider does it, they CP is the exception, and with their store being the weakest of the 4 major content distributors, it only hurts their business more.

With that said, it's always a good idea to backup your content on a separate external HDD in case of catastrophic failure as it still much faster than redownloading and resorting all your content again.

I'm not saying not to backup (I've got multiple Poser content backups myself), just that sometimes things happen that also result in the loss of the backups. It is in those instances that the regular Poser marketplace trend to allow you to re-download purchased content, even if it is something from 7 years ago, is better than being told "Should have gone with the extended download warranty, tough shit on your loss."

If your house is on fire, are you going to grab your Poser content backups? Are you even going to try to save the computer? With CP's policy, you're SoL for getting anything you've purchased from them in the past (after their warranty expires), unless you're willing to become a pirate.

I don't like their policy. Never took the extended warranty, and don't shop there much.  I can't understand how  a store that's not one of the top 2(in a SMALL market) can afford to have this policy and the, "Too bad, so sad" attitude over it.

Speaking as someone who's external died not too long ago...spoiled or not...the option to re-download content is a MUST for me AND a DEALBREAKER.
