Subject: Installing V4.2

kanaina ( ) posted Mon, 06 September 2010 at 8:34 PM · edited Mon, 03 February 2025 at 8:06 AM

I installed the file so long ago that now I can't remember how.  When I try to open the zip it says
it must be installed to the poser executable file.   DRIVING ME NUTS!  No matter what I do it doesn't get past this message.  WHAT AM I FORGETTING?

Real simple terms.  Like step by step for someone pulling their hair out.
Just reinstalled a bunch on Windows 7

I am not sure why you have a zip file because V4.2 comes as exe.file from Daz3d.
Mabye you should re download the file , it should be in your Account / Itemized Order History.

Hope that helps.

Also, which Poser version are you using?

If you're using Poser Pro or PP2010 you'll have to create a fake Poser.exe in the main Poser folder, actually you can install V4.2 anywhere as long as the folder includes a fake Poser.exe, just create an empty text file & rename it Poser.exe.

I'm in the same position as kanain, I have Poser 6 on Win XP Pro and I had V4.2 in an external runtime. Can't remeber, for the life of me, how I did it, though it wasn't totally successful as when I used her in Carrera it asked me where the morphs were when I loaded her in. Any ideas guys? thx.**

For V4 I think it might be best to do a fresh install.  Create a dummy folder and inside that create a new test file: New Text Document.txt.  Rename that file Poser.exe.  Install V4 with all of her other packages.  Morph ++, etc.  Then you can move the contents of the dummy folders into your Poser - whatever version -  Runtimes.

Be certain to maintain the folder structures and keep all the files in relative path statements.

For future re-installs you may want to back up the dummy Runtime to a CD-ROM or backup folder and keep those original files.  That way you won't have to face the DAZ installers again.

Best Wishes,
Rªnce

If you want to Install V4 into an external Runtime you need to use the * Daz Studio * option when you run the installer exe. that way you can choose any location for the installation.

Hope that helped

This was my plan but over at DAZ I have seen warnings about HAVING to install into Poser 6's "home" Runtime.

So I have the external Runtime with the fake poser.exe in it and then just install, using the Daz Studio option,  V4, morphs++ etc to that runtime and everything will work okay?

Also, as A4, G4 and S4 are now free, do they have to go into the same runtime as V4?

Well it is always better to install those MAIN Daz Figurs in the original Poser Runtime , that is what they say BUT you can put each of those characters in there own Runtimes and they will work fine.

I have mine all in their own Runtimes.

Propblems will occur if you have for example your V4.2 in more than just one Runtime installed.
Same with the other Characters.

With Poser 6 you have to move the libraries!DAZ folder into your main Runtime, thats all.

thx guys, she works a treat in P6 and Carrera :) One last question, if/when there are updates should I move the !DAZ folder back to the ext. runtime updte and then move it back or is there an easier way?
