Subject: Clothes and hair simulator development

Hello everyone,

I always have been interested by dynamics in 3D worlds.

I use clothes and hair tools from many years but I never found a tool which be able to generate animations with the fluidity I wanted to obtain.

I decided therefore to write my own tool which would be able to create animations with this great fluidity.

After one year of work, I can show the first results. I put on YouTube 6 videos accessible with "gcts3d" as search keyword.

The objective of this thread is to know if 3D animators are interested by such a product before to transform this beta release in final product.

Don't hesitate to give me your opinions.

So is this something that will work with Poser? Work with existing Poser-dynamic clothes, or does it, like the Dynamics for DazStudio, require specially made garments?

 Looks awesome!

You've gotten really far on it now. :)

I'm still very interested in beta testing it. The hair looks amazing.

I'm curious what the difference is between your cloth simulation and the one in Poser though?

Looks good, I'm a modeller myself, would be interested to see how the cloth is put together to work with your app.

Wow!  I'm very interested in the hair simulation.  I, too, wonder if the hair and/or garments require special design characteristics.  The videos mention that the simulated items are "based on" existing items, but what does that mean?  😕

Cage can be an opinionated jerk who posts without thinking.  He apologizes for this.  He's honestly not trying to be a turkeyhead.

Cage had some freebies, compatible with Poser 11 and below.  His Python scripts were saved at archive.org, along with the rest of the Morphography site, where they were hosted.

It looks amazing.

Amazing!! Looking forward to see/hear more about this.

Wow. Impressive!  As cage asked, when its written "hair based on", I understand the prop cannot be directly used (which actually makes sense) ?

Wow! Quite interested!!

It must use part of the original hair prop in some way. If it was an entirely new prop or dynamic hair just made to look similar to the other ones there wouldn't be any need to say that  it was based on others.
The idea of using existing hair props or characters as the basis for dynamic looking hair is appealing to me, as there is a much bigger variety than there is of good dynamic hair.
I'm wondering if this uses a similar type of prop and script dynamics as his dynachest product.

Is it for Poser? D|S? or both?

The results look really good. But if it's D|S only I won't be buying.

If you watch "This" video of his, it appears to be a Poser Python Plugin.

Yeah I've got Dynachest since way back and it's an amazing product. This guy knows what he's doing when it comes to dynamics. :)

ShaaraMuse3D ( ) posted Fri, 10 September 2010 at 11:27 AM

Oh yeah, Dynachest has been around for a long time.  If you want realistic breast physics, is the best plugin for it by far.

I also have the dynachest product. I only mentioned it because I wondered if he used the same sort of script to work with non dynamic hair to make it move like it was dynamic.
The animations in the clips were done using Daz's aniblocks, which suggests that it was done in Daz Studio and not Poser (unless he exported them from studio as animated poses for Poser).

Hello,

I want to give some explanations on my videos and on the programs I used.

The animation was made with Animate for Daz Studio because I'm not an animator and I don't know any tools able to create this kind of animations in Poser.

Then, the animation has been transfered in Poser and I used P2MImport to copy this animation in 3DSMax. The script which send the parameters to the simulation program is a 3DSMax script. The simulation program is a compiled program which makes the simulation (like in DynaChest) and send the result to Max.
The render was made using VRay.

About the "Based on" words. For the hair, the meshed hair are used as reference and are transformed in spline hair (not necessarly Poser hair) and the simulations are made using these splines. Then these splines are changed in meshed and textured hair for the render, keeping their animations.  For the clothes, my program can work with triangles or with quadrangles, but a good simulation needs elements which have a size as regular as possible and for clothes, the only one element which permits this, is the triangle. The clothes "based on" has been transformed in geometries and meshed using triangles to obtain the desired effect. I precise that numeric simulations are my job since more of twenty years.

Perhaps, i made a mistake calling my job "beta" a best name would be "alpha" because, currently,  I have no GUI able to be used without the need of many scripts and programs.

About clothes simulations, I found a new algorythm which permits to keep the dynamics without to lost precision with a good management of the collisions and self-collisions. For me, the best result is the video "Catwalk3.avi". I tried from many years to be able to keep this dynamics in a simulation and I think this video is a good result.
For me, this need was very important but I don't know if other persons have the same need. It's the reason of these videos and this thread.

Thank you for your remarks.

I would most definately be interested when you have a final product  that can be used with Poser.  Very impressive.

Very impressive. I would certainly use this. If you need a beta tester let me know. I would be glad to help.
I also have Max9.

Those are very impressive cloth simulations, especially noticing in Catwalk 5 the secondary motions caused by the hands, even using Nerd 3D's "mittens" that would be the point at which the standard cloth simulator would get crunchy, if not swallow part of the fabric between joints and then shred. I look forward to further developments and release of your plug-in. Please add me to the list of willing testers.
