Subject: Two thumbs down to E-On

Zerelli ( ) posted Wed, 13 October 2010 at 12:18 PM · edited Thu, 14 November 2024 at 10:07 PM

Well what an utter disappointment. I finally got my money together at the same time there was a sale on Vue and E-On cannot get their website to make it available to me for downloading. Called yesterday all day and kept getting told to wait half an hour to an hour then when it was near close of business they tell me it will be all set by 6 am today. Get up today and it says I have downloaded too many times (Total of 0 bytes downloaded by the way) so I have to call AGAIN. Call in they reset the downloads and BAM link doesnt work yet again. Call back and told it will be 8 hours. I know how customer service works, those ladies are not trying anything to fix my problem and are getting fed numbers from the real IT people. Point is it looks like I will have to go with Terragen 2 if I want new software.

its most likely due to there server getting flooded as the prerealse for vue 9 is now downloadeable...not the point i know...but i'm pretty sure that why you are having to wait so long for your copy of vue

They should have stopped processing orders rather than take my money and tell me the product was already downloaded or pending payment. Then they ust keep stringing me along telling me it will be fixed in an hour. That was 24 hours ago. It is definitely due to the pre-release, but that was their bad idea that they are forcing me to pay for. Oh well, they won't get any more money from me after this one.

Well, in the meantime, how about living your life?

Sorry to hear about your woes, it sounds to me like it was just bad timing. I took the plunge last Friday and upgraded from Vue 7 Complete to version 8 and the only problem I had was my card being declined by my bank. Turns out it was just my bank being overly paranoid and a quick(ish) confirmation phone call to the fraud department smoothed that out. You'd think they would be used to international payments in this day and age. After that I just re-submitted my payment and the download was nice and quick with no errors.

E-on should be used to this scenario, it happens every time they have a major new release. The obvious answer is to provide some temporary extra servers at the datacentre just to get them over the initial downloading frenzy. That way normal business could continue as, well, normal. :-D

Quote - Well, in the meantime, how about living your life?

...or E-On people remembering that if they can pay their bills and not live in a car under a bridge it is due to customers paying for their products and therefore deserving an appropriate service (read renting for a few days external servers)? When you pretend to be a professional outfit (with professional level prices) you should behave professionally.

Dear Zerelli, just wait for the Vue 9 storm to pass [shaking head icon here].

GIMP 2.7.4, Inkscape 0.48, Genetica 3.6 Basic, FilterForge 3 Professional, Blender 2.61, SketchUp 8, PoserPro 2012, Vue 10 Infinite, World Machine 2.3, GeoControl 2

As far as I know, they simply can't outsource the distribution. As part of the protection, each and every copy is customized for the person who will download it. It's of course possible to complaint about that too, but well, I guess everyone has the right to protect her/his property.
It's very sad to have to wait, but I guess we are simply spoiled by our electronic world. If you buy, let's say 12GB of ram online, do you expect the seller to "beam" them to you and get them within a minute ? Well, usually no, unless you live in a different dimension, you have to wait for the delivery.
For some software, you also have to wait until the seller has checked you (it would for example happen for a first purchase on this site).
Not very long ago, ZBrush gave us a wonderful FREE upgrade from version 3.5 to version 4. They had warned everyone, it would take a few days to deliver it to everyone. What happened ? The day they started shipping it people started complaining because they didn't get it the very first minute of the very first day.
New version of Poser ? Often messy when you want to download it, new version of a big product at Daz, the same. And many, many others could be named (even happened with a trial version of Adobe, and Adobe is HUGE compared to the companies previously named)
I can understand the fact that people are impatient to get what they paid for, but I'm very, very tired to see how our society evolve. People who sells us stuff aren't our enemies, they are not blood suckers who only dream of stealing our money with bug ridden software, they are people like us, who most often than not are decent people and try to do their best, because most often then not they are proud of what they do and would like it to be as good as possible. But well, they are humans, and shame on them, sometimes they fail to achieve all their goals.

End of rant.
