I finally decided to pony up the dough and upgrade to a more modern version of PS to go with my more modern pc. I bought CS 5 and Illustrator.

Problem is before I installed my upgrade I had FINALLY found a solution and decided to get rid of my 12,000+ fonts I have collected over the years. Now Photoshop and Illustrator both refuse to start throwing me errors. I decided to reinstall CS2 with the same error. I know it must have something to do with those fonts i deleted (obviously).

I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not.

A quick Google confirmed my first thought (that it may be caching font info), so see if any of the results that come up help resolve the problem.

As the problem must be related to removing fonts, you'll need to dig around to find if there's a Windows equivalent of the font cahcing on the Mac.

And if you've just got CS5, why not contact Abode support, they may even be able to point you directly to the solution instead of you having to try to track it down.

I did, first thing. Nothing back yet. Support is wonderful :D

I also checked for the caching thing on Windows, and nothing similar. I tried a system repair and it told me nothing was wrong with my system :P

I did a system restore and it could not continue due to not being able to open a font :P

Well, i did get my wish anyway. I got rid of all those blasted fonts LOL

It changed all my system fonts as well. My Cinema 4d looks different, my internet looks different ect.

The way i did it told me that it would replace all my system fonts upon reboot. I guess I can always reformat :(

It does sound like you trashed some of the system fonts in your clean up effort.

What you might try before going the reformat route; is go to another computer running the same OS and copy all the fonts from the WindowsFont folder on to a flash drive.

Boot your box into “Safe Mode” and drop those fonts back into your Font folder, and then reboot.

Yeah, i would love to get back my default system fonts. I even did a search for packages or someone that might have them to no avail. the only other pc in my house runs XP. I am on 7 x64 so no help i dont think. I dont wanna trash it worse by by installing older fonts :P

Attached Link: Unable to continue because of a hardware or system error. Sorry, but this error is unrecoverable.

How many fonts do you have in your Windows/Fonts folder now? Did you delete them all or selectively deleted most?

Here is something I found although it's regarding CS2 it might be of some help.

R.P.Studios ( ) posted Sat, 16 October 2010 at 3:55 PM

I have 864 fonts, but some of the necessary ones are missing i know because as i mentioned things like my internet and notepad are using different fonts. And this problem page i ran into yesterday, none of it helped :(

Assuming you have an install disc, you should be able to get the missing font files off that (attached link gives details of one way to do this using msconfig, but it can also be done from the command prompt).

I suspect that as an alternative to doing a complete reinstall, you might also be able to use some tool or other to fake up suitably named fonts just to get things working again.
