Subject: Tattoos, decals?

Schecterman ( ) posted Wed, 20 October 2010 at 6:41 AM · edited Sun, 10 November 2024 at 2:45 PM

Is it possible with Poser's Material room, some kind of shader node, whatever, to apply tattoos or decals over a texture?
I don't mean to apply a whole new texture with a tattoo painted on it, but rather to be able to apply just a tattoo or decal to any skin surface.

For example, if I paint a tattoo of some sort and want it on a light skinned figure's Body map I would paint it on that texture. But if I wanted to have it on a dark skinned figure I would have to redo the entire thing, painting it on the dark skin map.
So obviously it would be easier to just paint it once and be able to make a mat pose file to be able to apply it to any figure without having to redo the entire texture.

I'm thinking some sort of alpha mask, but I have no idea if it's possible in Poser. It seems to me that would entail having to have two Body textures applied at the same time. Then again, I have no idea if there is some way, because I simply don't know, which is why I'm asking. ;-)

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Wow man so it is possible after all.
Thank you so much! That's what I was looking for!

I made this basic screencap for my tattoo pack. You can use it with bagginsbill's VSS too, just plug the blender node into "color multiply 8" (VSS PR3 no-AO).

Lower the blending and you get more of a fade on the tattoo. You can even link entire chains of tattoos together. I strung together 4 or 5 different tattoos to get this.

I'm eagerly anticipating any kind of answer that BB might have, it took me a week or two to figure out how (where in the node soup rather) to put my tattoos into a shader made with VSS.

Decals

And a little more explanation of how the Blender node works:

http://www.runtimedna.com/forum/showthread.php?39937-Blender-Node-Question

This should all be done after using VSS, correct?

Well... I'd actually set up a set of rules to apply the decal from VSS itself - I'd incorporate all of it into the Template_Skin.

But that would be hard for you guys - it is node spaghetti for sure. I don't build the nodes by hand - I use matmatic.

A tattoo template skin was one of the things I always meant to publish. Can't do it right now.
