"What 3D Program Should I buy?" Not one person here can really tell you what's best for you, as everyone has their own taste in workflow. Try the demo or learning edition of the program you're interested in, this is the only way to find out which programs you like.

Is there anyone around who knows a free program that can change several extensions into obj
I am working on home design models and want to use them in Bryce6.3
I am using a cad like program, but can't import or export in objThanks in advance
What file formats does the CAD program you're using write out ?
CADsoft applications tend to be islands and don't export their objects well. I use Chief Architect which has an excellent 3DS exporter which I then use Carrara (a free app once in awhile) to convert to OBJ for rendering in Vue or modo with all textures/mappings intact.

I am not really a modeller, but I am very interrested in home design
Bryce doesn't give me what I need
The program "chief architect" I saw too, but it is the price of what you get with it
For every part, you need to buy a new part of the program and I don't like that
Envisioneer 6.1 does have some plant options although I could do that in Bryce
Thanks all btw for replying

Could I ask what the advantage to using a cad app as oposed to a genareal modeller?
In general, the home design apps generate 3D building objects from 2D floorplan drawings. So if you need a house model for a 3D scene that looks like an actual house (with furnishings and everything), these CAD programs are nice to have. Chief Architect X1 uses POVray I think for its render (slow as hell, but faster than Envisioneer's). I bought the billboard plant library for CA X1, but now that I have enough plants now for Vue (and added Xfrog to that list), I just do my plant/landscaping/rendering in Vue or modo.
See http://www.shonner.com/drafts/eichler_home.htm for something I played around with.
