This is tree bark, or part of a tree we saw on a mountain trail last week on one of the 1 1/2 days there was not rain.  I love the woods.

As for my new avatar, those binocular viewers are my friends.  We seem to have something is common.  Perhaps it is the smile.

This wall could have looked better, but i had to cut out a little peace, because it is heavy texture. and i had to compress it more than 30%

This is not subtle texture but is the weaving of a Native American basket, woven by a lady named Francis Cucumber of honey suckle vine.  Native organic dyes are used.  She is part of the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Nation.  These people are descendants of the Cherokee Indian people who avoided being shipped by foot to Oklahoma in the "Trail of Tears" in the government attempt to move the Cherokee Nation to a location more suitable for while settlers...get them away.  Those were different times and many events happened for which no one is truly proud.

The only Native American goods I will purchase must be certainly made by those people, not imported fakes.  Much of the old skills have been passed on to the next generations and some will use those crafts is specially fine traditional and creative new artistic directions.

So...despite my excess of words, here is a texture.

Baking a sponge cake?  ; )

HAHA!!! No sponge cake but BUNS.  And thank you LP. I use normally ond fascionated yeast and milk, but the milk is not directly from the refridge. it is hand warm. So is the wheat flour... ok i add a couble of handfull of wholemeal too.

OH and much of the swelling comes from the kneading. It is very important to knead it properly.

But the best part is, that i have a BIG plast bowl (Tupperware) with a tight lit.  I put the dough in there, close the lit and then i place the bowl in warm water until the lit poppes off. That really makes the yeast cells accelerate. And when i forme the buns, i let them swell another 20 minutes, before i paint them over with an egg.  Often i have added raisins in the dough. We like that :)  Have a look in the link and drool.

Those are marvelous looking buns, Helanker.

I don't make buns but I'm pretty good at pita bread. That is my husbands favorite and in the cold weather a pretty usual morning project. During the summer he has to suffer store bought, I don't do oven in the house in the summer and he has yet to build an outdoor brick oven...

Here is an old photo montague of the process I posted quite some time ago
