Subject: Setting Default Scene in Vue 9 doesn't work

Mari-Anne ( ) posted Mon, 22 November 2010 at 1:45 PM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 12:53 PM

I am wondering if anyone has tried to set up a Default Scene in the File > Options dialog box, and if so, does it work?  I thought I'd get some input from others before I report it as a bug to e-on.

When I try to establish a default scene with a changed camera position and a simple sphere, I just get a blank one-pane Vue display with all the tools icons dimmed instead of the default 4-panes with the normal tools working .

Vue 9 Inf. Build #9005248, Windows 7 64-bit, GeForce GTX 260/PCI/SSE2 video card.

It was one of the first things I did - and yes it worked for me.  I'm on Vusta 64bit

Hmmm, that's not fair.  What kind of things did you include in your scene and did you change the number of panes in the main viewing area, Gill?

Check if it is one of those conflicts with the Windows 7 UAC. Start Vue as Administrator (right click and select "Run as Administrator"). Now set up and save your new default scene. Exit and then go back in to see if it "stuck".

Now it's really goofy.  For a while, I would start Vue from scratch and I'd  get my empty/non-functioning screen, and then when I clicked on File > New from inside Vue, I'd get my new one-sphere default screen.  I tried this a couple of time with the same result.

However, now when I start Vue from scratch, I get the one-sphere default screen right from start-up so now it's working the way it's intended.

I'm wondering if I am to deduce from this that Vue is alive and with a will of its own.  Scary, eh?

If it happens again, I'll try your remedy, TD, but I think I did the Run as Administrator-thing for Vue a long time ago, so I don't think that was it.

Good to hear you got it working now

For the record I add 4 extra cameras, change the main camera perspective and render size and widen the gadgets bar on the right side.

The only thing that doesn't stick for me is I check 'Render to Screen' before settingthe default, but I always have to go back and do that manually

OK, thanks Gill.  I appreciate the information.  A good reminder that I wanted to change to 'Render to screen' as well.

OK, I think I solved my mystery.  When I made the changes, Vue went right back to not working again.  No personalized scene.

I discovered you have to have the box "Create empty scene on startup" checked after you personalize your scene and click the "Set default scene."  I would have thought this one should be unchecked or else you'd get a default scene rather than your own personalized scene.

But I got it to work using the above method, however, like in Gill's case, "Render to screen" is the only option that doesn't stick.
