Subject: Smart Props and Poser 7/Pro

KageRyu ( ) posted Fri, 03 December 2010 at 3:42 PM · edited Wed, 04 December 2024 at 8:13 PM

Ok, I have made dozens of Smart Props in Poser 4 Pro without any hitches. I am familiar with the process and the tutorials (which all seem to date back to P4).  For the first time though, I have tried applying the process in Poser 7 Pro and had dissapointing results.  After the objects been imported, scaled, re-exported, positioned, and parented - when I save it to the library I neither get the prompt to save it as a smart prop, nor does it save as a smart prop.  Instead it goes straight from the select subset to the saving, and saves unparented, with wierd scaling and rotational values.  I have double checked my parenting, positioning, and re-done the process step by step, and it keeps doing this.  I figure this must be something with Poser 7 Pro, is there a step I am need to add, something I am missing not in the tutorials? Has anyone else encountered these issues?

I would greatly appreciate any help.

For technical reference, I am using a Wavefront object, and attempting to parent to Daz3D's Troll's hand.

Have you tried saving the Wavefront object first as a prop, then reloading it from the library back into your scene?

BTW, no such thing as Poser 7 Pro, only PoserPro.

I say Poser 7 Pro to distinguish between Poser Pro based off Poser 7 and Poser Pro 2010.

And yes, the object saves to the library fine as an unparented prop. The problem is Poser 7 Pro is not letting me save it as a parented prop. And I have tried other objects as well with the same issues - including Poser primitives that ship with the program.

I don't have Poser 7 Pro, but one thing that will prevent the save as smart prop option appearing in any version I have used, is if you use the "Select Subset" option.

This was always how I had done it in Poser 4 ProPack and never once had a hitch. I will give it a shot in Poser 7/Pro without entering the subset screen and see if it makes any difference...

Yup, that was it, thank you my friend. Been going back and forth with Smith Micro through email all afternoon and that never came up as the cause.  Odd that it never caused that in Poser 4 Pro Pack when I used to use it though...

Everything is working now, thanks **lesbentley.** I now have this gun as two smart props, one left and one right, with coresponding poses.  Working on some animation for him. I feel this gun was almost made for this guy.
