Subject: Translate/Pull Tools locked in Poser 7

Clemenceau ( ) posted Mon, 13 December 2010 at 9:05 AM · edited Mon, 18 November 2024 at 6:39 PM

I'm sure this question has been asked but I cannot find a way to search the forums!  Please don't hate on me if it's here and I can't find it - I did try.......:-(

Anyway,  can someone please help with this question?  I don't know if I've toggled something on/off but the Translate/Pull Tool buttons now cease to function in any Poser scene.  The manual doesn't help with this problem either.  I've been using them successfully for several months now but can't move things around in the scene if the buttons don't work and there isn't any other workaround.

I've rebooted my computer since this problem occurred and it hasn't changed anything,  so I'm flummoxed,  short of re-installing the program entirely.

Many Thanks

If this behaviour is primarily in one scene, it might be that you have locked the actors. Try going into the figure and object menus and making sure that they are not locked.  If this is happening in multiple scenes I am at a loss, but it might be a python script interfering with the program, or something in the config files got corrupted.  You might want to head on over to Smith Micro's tech support and drop this question on them - though I can almost gaurantee they will say that it is corrupt config files, and instruct you to delete all your preferences and configs (that is almost their canned answer to any odd behaviour, and may or may not fix the issue).

You can skip right to that step by going here and following the directions: http://support.smithmicro.com/cs/smkb.cfg/php.exe/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=2076&p_sid=BRNz9qhk&p_lva=2097&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPSZwX3NvcnRfYnk9JnBfZ3JpZHNvcnQ9JnBfcm93X2NudD0zNjUmcF9wcm9kcz0mcF9jYXRzPSZwX3B2PSZwX2N2PSZwX3NlYXJjaF90eXBlPWFuc3dlcnMuc2VhcmNoX25sJnBfcGFnZT0x&p_li=#

To search Renderosities forums, AFAIK just type your search terms into the Search Renderosity box at the top right of the page, and it will search galleries, blogs, profiles, products, and forums for those terms.

I know this isn't a solution, but I hope this information is helpful.

Hello,

Thanks for the prompt reply.  I will check out the link at Smith Micro in the meantime.  I will say that it is not one scene,  but every scene,  including new scratch ones.  I can however,  use both these buttons within the Materials Lab.

I actually don't have any preferences set that I'm aware of.  I'm using it right out-of-the-box.  No matter whether I load old scenes I created in Poser 4 or brand new scenes native to Poser 7 - those two buttons only will not work EXCEPT in the Materials Lab.

Seems like something has been corrupted because they worked fine until a few days ago.

Thanks again.......

Do you have a space navigator from 3dConnexion? If yes, then calibrate or remove it. The problem you describe can be caused by it. I searched for days until I found the solution.

No,  I don't.  I am running BOINC client with some scientific applications (they rely heavily on the GPU for processing) but I've used them for 2+ years and I shut them down when I'm running Bryce or Poser.

Haven't installed any new programs and no reason comes to mind.....

delete your poser.ini file.

Poser will generate a new one when you restart it.

The location of the file will vary on operating system and other installation options.

The instructions at the link worked.  I delete Poser.ini and UIPrefs.xml,  reloaded my runtime folders and it worked.

Obviously something had gotten corrupted.

Many thanks!
