I don't know if they are making much of anything in Gwent, buddy.  Wales has been hit really hard by the recession and, prior to that, various Government policies drove most local industries (coal, steel, manufacturing) down the tubes.

Hi to everyone,

I don't think the forums are dead, like said before,  it's just the time of the year. As a matter of fact there are a lot of interesting topics going around: rumours about a new poser release, next generation Daz models and more. I still read most of the posts everyday but I don't post so much anymore at the moment, too busy with other things. I noticed there are some old members posting, like Schlabber. I even saw a post from Hawkfyr, I haven't seen him for ages. The slience around ODF worries me, I hope he will finish his Anthonia-project, it's one of the most interesting forum-projects and I hate to see it die in beauty.

best regards and have a good holiday,

Bopper.

I'm not too good with German, but from what I could gather from the German forum, odf went to Germany to visit his mother and made the trip back. So he must be home by now, that was a month ago. In his last posting here, which was in the Brad thread, he said something about being overworked, very busy and was looking for an out on his night job (?). Which I took to mean he did not have time to work on things here for now. So I think he will be back when things are a little slower for him.

G just to answer the original question:

Quiete the contrary :o) - I'm more and more feeling like I'm beginning to awake again :--)

But to be honest - I'm thinking more global - not only of Renderosity Forum. There was once an age (seems I'm becoming old) where we all somehow were connected and met via Chat-Software ...

I know I have been away for years and I'm missing dozens of old virtual friends. But then I'm thinking ... hey, same happens to them like happened to me. You should know there's another life outside 3D ;o) .

As long as I know they are happy (and last ime I left I knew a lot of them are quiete happy with their lifes) this is great for me.

Maybe some of them are coming back - and if it's only to say a quick "hello"

Quote - > Quote - > Quote - HEre's what's wrong with Rendeosity forums. PEOPLE ARE AFRAID TO POST.

There is no need to afraid to post.

I have nearly completely stopped posting on Renderosity Vue forum because a group of trolls went after me whatever I wrote, without any action by moderators (I am mercifully pretending not to consider that in fact that mobbing might be... well... deliberately "overlooked"). As in nearly every case I was the one who gave information, the loser is almost totally the community, not me.

Are external links not allowed? I hope that mentioning the existence of something called "Vue" does not put me in danger of disciplinary actions... 50% of a forum worth is the possibility of exchanging information about other sites but well, I'll keep the good stuff for me, no problem :sneaky:.

If you were being personally attacked and it seemed not noticed, in the future please contact any staff or admin. We are here to help. That is not tolerated at all. period.

As for external links, links the go to other "sale" sites. No. If someone is asking for a certain model and you know where it is, that is fine. :)

Wow...Schlabber...Now there's a name I haven't seen for a long time.

I've been out of the look for a few years too. It's nice to see some of us Long-timers are still around.

That said...I've seen these forums go through more changes than I care to list...Everything from full blown Site Wars, to Pink Pony's.

Forums that were so busy that it was hard to even keep up. Some (Many)of those forums do not even exist anymore. The Community Forum used to be bustling with all kinds of shenanigans, and folks generally had a sense of humor...I think that is what I miss the most...The Humor...It's just not the same as it used to be.

So I guess to answer the question in the title of this thread...one might ask:
"Compared to when?"

Hi Hawkfyr,

I agree more humor and tolerance is a good thing. I think tolerance most of all. We all are different and all should be welcome (within reason and the TOS of course)

I have only been here for a few years but I have noticed an overall change in the atmosphere. Less comradery and fun, and more intolerance. I may be off in my pertception, but seems like we have groups of individuals ignoring other groups of individuals. Just a few weeks ago we had members running around calling others trolls, and just plain being nasty. And I wonder to myself what happened.

I have thought that may be why many people have left. I don't know. But if no one else sees what I do, perhaps I have been at the bong too much. :)

Too much self importance. Our individual views, beliefs etc. may be important to ourselves but should not be imposed as some type of requirement for membership and inclusion in the community here.

Life is hard, but what a ride.

Thread drift.  Happens everywhere.  Surely you don't expect an OT thread to stay on topic.  That'd be recursive irony beyond all mortal understanding.

Most on topic threads generally stay on topic, at least until the mud slinging begins.  :)  And, in all fairness, the vast majority of posters to this thread do contribute a substantial amount of on topic and generally useful posts.  Even me.  So there.

Hi Stepson,  i've got the same feeling too.  i wouldn't be surprised if survey teams were being assembled as we speak.  and i imagine they'll check out the resources,  infrastructure,  and socio-economic situations in the midwestUSA,  Ireland,  and the UK(need three points to form the triangle).  you know kind of the eyes and ears of the two chieftans.

i can almost see it too...the army the two cheiftans have assembled...3 ranks:  first rank(lance) a charity foundation for immediate relief.  second rank(mace) a commercial bank to buy up the distressed mortgages,  renegotiate them at lower interests rates and extend the payback time.  third rank(sword) a holding company that brings up the industry(infantry).  the industry(infantry)...good paying jobs in manufacturing so the people can repay their mortgages,  provide health care for themselves and their loved ones,  pensions set in trusts funds waiting for them when they retire,  and for God's sake a wage that they can take a vacation on!

how is it done...by using the old formulae...the 800 hundred year old one whos priority is helping people and setting them free.

and who are the surveyors... the archers,  naturally.

Hawkfyr!

I love the Renderosity for Dummies book. The Chapter about "moving beyond the NVIATWS" render was very helpful!! Like most guys, I was trapped in an endless series of NVIATWS renders- oh I would change the lighting- and sometimes add two nekkid vickies-but that was it. THEN I followed your advice in the book.

You took it step by step to bring us past this render style- "first- place a SHOE on your Nekkid Vicky- render several times. Get used to it- then add the other shoe. Continue adding a piece of clothing and rendering until you reach the Scantily Clad Vicky with Absurdly Skimpy Armor in a Temple With Sword. Many people have trouble with this- give it time."

It took me several years- but I can now regularly render Reasonably Armored Vicky in a Temple With a Sword images. Sometimes- without the sword!

Some of us get rather upset if a topic, even an off-topic topic, does not develop in a fashion that we expect or desire, hewing strictly to a single shining goal - advancing humankind's deep and abiding understanding of all things poser.  Some find all this meandering about and expressing personal, non-poser specific thoughts distressing.

The madman jumped into their midst and pierced them with his eyes. "Whither is the Poser Forum?" he cried; "I will tell you. We have killed it---you and I. All of us are its murderers. But how did we do this? How could we drink up the sea? Who gave us the sponge to wipe away the entire horizon? ...Do we not feel the breath of empty space? Has it not become colder? Is not night continually closing in on us? Do we not need to light lanterns in the morning? Do we hear nothing as yet of the noise of the gravediggers who are burying the Poser Forum? Do we smell nothing as yet of the divine decomposition? Forums, too, decompose. The Poser Forum is dead. The Poser Forum remains dead. And we have killed it...

The Wisdom of bagginsbill:

"Oh - the manual says that? I have never read the manual - this must be why."
“I could buy better software, but then I'd have to be an artist and what's the point of that?"
"The [R'osity Forum Search] 'Default' label should actually say 'Don't Find What I'm Looking For'".
