Subject: Scaling Issue

I'm working with a figure with a scaling issue. When dialing in scale, x-,y- or z-scale values in certain groups, the resulting scale is REVERSE. So increasing the scale in the dial actually decreases the scale of the figure in the scene.

What sort of adjustment to the cr2 code can I make to correct this?

you MIGHT try changing trackingScale 0.004  to a negative number and see what happens . The other way is to create an ERC dial and use an opdelta negative value on it.

The usual suspect is the "smoothScale" channels in the figure. "smoothScale" channels are hidden joint parameter channels in the figure. Their purpose is to scale the part when its neighbour is scaled. In my opinion, they usually create more problems than they solve.

There is no easy solution that I can think of. If this is for your own personal use, you could try saving a copy of the figure, then delete all the smoothScale channels from the copy, using a cr2 editor (eg "Cr2Builder", or "Cr2Editor"). If it's for distribution, you will just have to experiment with scaling various parts in various ways, to try to find some combination that produces the desired effect.

Hmmm ... interesting. I had found that the figure (I "inherited" a rig) had a smoothscaley channel in the left toes for the foot, and a smoothscalez channel in the right toes for the foot. So I created a smoothscale channel (z and y) for each toe.

Bingo, this problem appeared.

So that appears to be the answer.

I've never really used smoothscale channels, so this is definitely a learning process.

If this is your own figure, then there is no bar on deleting the smoothScale channels. However if this is a conforming item, it should probably contain the same channels as the target figure. Otherwise it may not scale in the same way as the character it conforms to.
