Subject: Importing DAZ DAE Model with Skeleton into Blender

DigitalGem ( ) posted Tue, 28 December 2010 at 5:22 PM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 10:03 AM

Hi, and thanks for taking the time to read and (hopefully) answer my question!!

I'm using DAZ Studio 3.1 to export models.  Specifically I'm trying to export with skeletons/armatures.  I've (hopefully) attached a screenshot image capture.

In DAZ I've done the following:

(menu)File->Export

(export file dialog) Save as Type: DAZ COLLADA

(collada export options - General Tab)

Profile->Standard COLLADA

Geometry->Weld Geometry, Remove Unused Vertices, Ignore Invisible Nodes, Bake Scale, Merge Skeletons

Surfaces->Collect Maps

I accept and get a *.dae file.

In Blender 2.49b:

(menu) File->Import->COLLADA 1.4

(1.4.0 COLLADA Script) Select my *.dae file then hit "Import and Close"

The attached image should show you what is happening.  Is there a way in Blender (or DAZ) to fix this?

Again, thanks for taking your time to assist!

Cheers!

Jim

Hi Jim, I also use D|S but I am not real versed on this..but did you make sure you exported as whole body, or maybe hip? I am not sure..I know that is how it is done in Poser. I am sure others have a solution :)

Attached Link: DSES Script

Try this. Quite cheap and I think it does what you want.

I've been using 2.49b along with 2.55Beta. If I export my model as above from DAZ, 2.55Beta will import the mesh and the armature. But what it seems to be a delicate operation. 2.55Beta will report and error on import sometimes, and other times it will outright crash. It seems if the .dae is large, 19MB seems to be the limit where the unpredictable really starts happening.

I've just downloaded 2.56 Beta and will experiment more with the .dae's in it.

Also, I've just started experimenting with setting the armatures. It appears to be bound appropriately to the mesh. The scaling is difficult as after import the camera and light in the basic scene are inside the body. I have to select the armature and scale to a respectable size.
