I was looking at some of the other galleries and I was wondering if C could do good fall leaves.

Based on this test render, I believe it can!

Looks great! I have to agree that you can.

Translucent?  Or no.  Was your gamma 1.8?  Or just 1?  Seems dark.

I tried that out too back in C6.
I was pretty pleased with the results.

This render used translucency and some sub surface scattering.  No gamma.  I did jack up the light pretty high (around 200%).  You can see the translucency effect of the leaves on the tree trunks.

Pretty much.  The trees that come with Carrara are pretty basic.  I did fuss with the textures a little bit.

I have noticed that the trunks and limbs are pretty basic, but if you cover them with leaves, they look pretty good.  I wonder of one could model the trunk and limbs in the vertex modeler and cover it with Carrara leaves?

Actually the plant editor has a lot of magic in it which I have not explored but aim to.  I'm just starting to play around with outdoor stuff.

I've played with surface object replication to achieve what UVDan has proposed.  It works well, you do need to identify the region that will take the leaves...

Thanks!

When I get done fooling around with Star desroyers, I want to try to work on some stuff for outdoor scenes and fall colors is a good one to start with.
