Subject: Those of you using Vue 9 Infinite.....

What are your impressions about it compared to Vue 8.5?  Crashing?, Problem with poser imports? I have been on a few forums about Vue and have seen little in the way of complaints or major issues. Is no news good news???? LOL!

Thanks

Compared to 8.5 it is better, compared to 8 the verdict is still out for me...

8.5 was always a dog for me, I never used it in the end, stayed with 8 until 9 came out.

There are problems for me with how 9 sees Poser materials, it seems to lose the materials between saving and re-opening the scene some time later, I don't know how that happens, but it does..

Example: A white dress material is white when I save the scene, when I re-open it a day later it is black and I have to edit the material..[Shrug]...

I'm loving Vue 9.  Runs very stable on my system (i7 64 bit, 6GB memory).  Only had one warning that resources were getting low, and that was after making a lot of tweeks and test renders.  Very heavy scene with a lot of imports and I just love the HD trees!

The Vue 9 PLE is available, so give it a try!

I'll preface my opinion by stating that I am a Mac user, so I may be coming from a very different place, given e-on's rather sketchy support for their Mac versions over the years. I still use version 6 for content creation and it's always been stable enough, though 7 and 8 were totally useless on the Mac as in why bother even trying to run them.

That said, Vue 9 Infinite is a HUGE step forward in stability and seems to have just a few minor issues as opposed to being one giant crash waiting to happen from the moment you open it. The minor issues are not deal breakers by any stretch, though I do hope they will address them - simple stuff like having to double (sometimes triple) click folders within the content browser, slightly slower load times of external objects, etc., etc.

Poser is working great with 9, though the aforementioned slower load times come in here for sure. My workaround for this is also a workaround for SkinVue 9, or more specifically for wxPython which doesn't work on the Mac within a 64-bit environment - I import Poser figures into Vue 6, tweak the mats, run SkinVue and save out a VOB for import into 9 which for some reason is faster than the native Poser import.

All told, it's a massive leap from where it was and I am again a happy e-on customer… I just hope they continue along this course and keep the forward motion as the previous couple versions were complete garbage.

Vue xStream stand-alone is basically Vue Infinite, so here's my experience, albeit limited. (I'm so busy learning to use software that I don't have enough time to actually create these days.) Vue 9 seems much more stable, and the renderer is quicker in the preset settings. I'm seeing less of a grainy aspect in the renders, which suggests that something more significant is going on than merely dropping the default quality in the interest of speed.

While it is possible that things will change when I try something more ambitious than a simple landscape, I'm finding that I actually enjoy using Vue 9.

The Terrain Editor in Vue 9 Infinite is much more responsive than it was in Vue Infinite 8 on the same hardware.  I do not have to exit and re-start Vue 9 like I did with Vue 8 to keep RAM from getting wasted.  OpenGL is much better in Vue 9 than 8.  Cornucopia3D's Willow Tree is the only thing that will crash Vue 9 Infinite on my computer.  So I just don't use that plant.  It never crashed Vue 8 Infinite.

I am using Vue 9 infinite after using all versions from version 2

I am on Pc ,Windows 7 64 bits  8 gigs

Vue 8 and 8,5 were perfect for me

Vue 9 brings me more crash , more memory problem and more incompatibilty loading older scenes than i have seen before. I will wait to new  update before i  continue to use it

Right: the terrain editor have received news features. well done

no problem for importing Poser scenes (Poser 7,Poser 8,Poser pro 2010)

I'm not sure yet what these two settings mean or do, but checking them no longer causes Vue 9 Infinite to crash on me whenever I load a scene that has Cornucopia3D's Willow tree in it.

Thanks ShawnDriscoll

I use to keep defaut seetings But i iremember i have theses checked when i have older system with Vue infinite. I will try with version 9

Sure display would be less in  realtime mode  but demand less memory and power from system

It seems to be a scale thing that Vue 9 needs to do when re-generating a Vue 8 tree.  It clobbers Vue 9's refreshing of the material preview.

I have Vue 9 running the latest EEF update on both Windows 7 64 bit and Mac Snow Leopard.

What I can tell you is Vue 9.x on Windows 7 64bit is very good and a LOT better than 7.x or 8.x versions. If you followed any of my LONG discussion threads here or at e-on on their Matainence forum then you know about all the problems I had with Poser imports. It was so bad that e-on assigned me a tech to work with and I uncovered and documented over 4 known bugs at the time ranging from Poser Shader Tree issues to OOM (Out of Memory) errors at random times. There was nothing that could be done according to Neil at e-on because it was the Smith Micro package causing the problems. He confimed all my reported issues going all the way back to Vue 7.x and reported them to Smith Micro. Now, if you use the latest Smith Micro SDK in Vue 9.x, things appear to be much improved and most of the bugs I reported have not shown up for me from what I have tested it with. There is still a known scaling issue to deal with though and I am working on a couple of others with them.

The other improvements seem to be good too with the terrain editor, handling of clounds, etc. which slowed down before. So basically, I would agree that the Win 7 64bit version is better than before so long as they keep the Smith Micro SDK updated and work with them on the problems.

For the Mac under Snow Leopard, as has been said above, there are a few issues you run into since not everything is 64bit on the Mac side such as the wxpython script and some other minor issues. Overall though, it has been a LOT better than any of the prior attempts at a 64bit Cocoa version and is really the first full 64bit Vue on the Mac. At least now, it is usable for me on the Mac Pro unlike any of the other versions. I am hoping they will give more support to it in the coming versions given how far they have come as of now.

So, both versions I think are indeed improved from 7.x and 8.x in terms of overall quality. But, I would still like to see e-on take at least one year and do nothing but bug fixes and improvements to it for a better program. I can live without any new features for a least that long and I know many I have talked to in production feel the same way.

Happy rendering

Jeff

adding a little detail...  -but probably not relevant-

the interface has changed

Vue 9 must look great on all of your yummy looking wide screens!  :-D

I still stick with my old -once pricey- square Eizo screen (cuz of the quality) and can still use the drop down-button of which the very top is visible in 9Inf, but can't hit the render button, cuz it's out of sight.

(contacted E-on whether it's possible to switch to 'classic display' or ? and they said it isn't. But I suppose this is a 'good thing'. Bet I am 1 of the last 'dinosaurs' still using a square screen.  ;-D)

I have two square screens.  I have Vue 9 running in one of them at 1280 x 1024.  Everything is there.
