Cool, thanks. Nice lean mesh. Which reminds me: it's time to get in shape for Spring. :-)

Thanks Helgard.. ...

Once in a while I look around,
I see a sound
and try to write it down
Sometimes they come out very soft
Tinkling light sound
The Sun comes up again

Hi Helgard,

First off, top quality stuff as always! Excellent work!

As an aspiring 3D creator I was wondering how long it takes you to make your typical 3D creation? I mean these things look immaculate. I can only guess you spent days on them. If I made something as good as this I would probably try to sell it in the marketplace, so you are being most generous to give them away for free. Thank you!

Also what modeling software do you use? I currently use Wings3D and have found it pretty sufficient for making most of the stuff I've tried to make. However, some things I find difficult to do with it, like creating conforming clothing has been hard for me. So far most of my models have been simple things like helmets or hats and the only conforming stuff I've done so far have been suspenders, which are a bit easier to make than other clothing items.

I find it particularly difficult to creat collars for shirts and jackets. I can usually create the basic shape of the jacket but when I get to the neck I can't figure out how to get the software to create what I want. The same goes for seams like the front of a jacket with buttons.

Gary,

Please note that I don't make ALL these freebies myself, I run OnTarget3D, so a lot of these models are made by the other guys.

As far as tools and time goes, I use Wings3D for all my modelling. It takes a while to do some things, but I like the simplicity of the program, and the fact that it is so uncluttered.

A really complex model, with a lot of rigging, detailed textures, etc, can take me up to a month (like the Panzer IV: http://market.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/index.php?ViewProduct=53009) but other models sometimes go quite fast.

I made this in about 5 days: http://www.ontarget3d.com/site/Products/959-the-trenches-1-for-poser.aspx

Helgard

As far as making collars go in Wings, make them seperately (a seperate object), don't try to make them part of the same mesh as the rest of the jacket or shirt.
