Subject: External Morphing while in a pose - possible?

Netrunner ( ) posted Sun, 06 February 2011 at 8:11 AM · edited Thu, 19 September 2024 at 3:50 AM

Hi there!

Recently I tried to make morph targets for V4 with Cinema 4D. (as I am way better in C4d than in poser :-D )

My workflow was to bring a V4 figure to the Poser scene, zero it and uncheck inverse kinematics.

The I exported the V4 figure as a 3DS file, opened in C4d, deleted all body-parts except one, morphed it and saved as an obj-file.

Back in Poser set the file as a morph target for the respective body-part and put the dial to 1.

SO FAR SO GOOD

Now my problem / question:

This method only worked when V4 was zeroed in the beginning.

Is it possible to morph when the figure is allready in a pose?

What I need is a kneeling V4 and THEN morph the tighs and shins to fit a seat, but when V4 is standing in zero pose I can't morph because I do not have the reference to my seat area.

THANKFUL FOR ALL ANSWERS!!!

Why don't you try posing V4 first, select the body part and export just that part for morphing.  That should be easier than exporting the entire model and breaking that down in another application.

Actually there is a tool to do that. Makes the connection from Poser 2 Modeller 2 Poser and spans as many body parts as you want.

Hi hborre!

The workflow I described is the one that works. If you export the whole figure or one single body part doesn't matter, just a question ov worklow...

What does NOT WORK is as you mentioned to pose V4 first and the export and morph a body part. When it comes back to poser and is set as a morph target the whole part moves "elsewhere" when the dial is set

Hi arcebus!

Thanks for the site.

I forgot to mention that I am still working with Poser 6 and I am looking for a free solution if possible! :-D

I have taken a look how exports are handled in PP 2010.  Although you are using P6, I believe the same events happen between both versions.  Exporting as a Wavefront object, you are given an option to create a morph target with no world translation, which means you should be able to apply your morph target while your model is in any pose and position.  However, saving in 3ds format will no give you such an option.  The actual selection box is entirely grayed out.  This may be the root of your problem.  Have you tried Wavefront OBJ format to create your morph target?

You could try using magnets to create your morph , and then spawn morph from magnets.

Again thanks for your tipps!

Using magnets is what I try to avoid cause C4D gives alot more morphing options than that.

I now tried exporting as a wavefront obj "as morph target" but now the figure-parts come out zeroed in C4D meaning that my initial poser pose is not transfered to C4D.

I guess thats what they mean when the say "no world transformations"

:-(
