Subject: problem converting heirarchy

i get an eror saying can,t find geometry for the groups. i save obj,s with ray dream5.5. name groups properly. make flawless PHI spelled correctly. save obj in runtime geometries. what,s wrong

Grab a copy of phi builder out of the free stuff. It is very useful for spotting these sorts of problems.

Go through the model's .obj geometry file with a text editor looking for lines starting with "g", to find what its groups are really called. Those lines set the groups. If your group names are on "usemtl" lines rather than on "g" lines, something is wrong somewhere.

group names are correct and on "g" lines.

hmm... does the phi point to the correct location for the obj you are using? does it include the proper capitalization (or non-capitalization) of stuff? also check the capitalization for the group names. maybe you could also post a section of your phi here...? maybe we could spot something.

I'm certain you meant: objFile :Runtime:Geometries:Doughboy:doughboy.obj Right?

yes, changed it,tried it, same problem, no geometry to match node (group name).

Well, I still think you need to get phi builder (http://www.poserforum.com/download.ez?uploadid=66) and see what error it finds. You almost certainly have a spelling or capitalization error. But I don't think you can't use an Ik chain of only one object. And you will find that including eyes in the phi leads to problems later.

If you'd like a someone else to take a look you can e-mail a WINZIP of the .obj and .phi to bushi@spiritone.com. I've had a little experience tracking this type of error message down. ;-)

kevin, i had a phi builder. it gave me the same result, so i got mad and deleted it. bushi, my free winzip trial ended and i don't have it. can i e-mail the files to you.

Sure, from the looks of the .phi the .obj isn't going to be that big. Send them over and I'll take a look.

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT. the "." in obj.file shouldn't be there. it was messing it up. thanks to everyone who helped

(Someone told me that Poser 4 behaves better with eyes when it makes a figure given a .phi file that mentions eyes.)
