Subject: Why buy Poser Debut ? (constructive comment only PLEASE)

LBAMagic ( ) posted Tue, 15 February 2011 at 7:57 PM · edited Fri, 27 December 2024 at 4:18 AM

I thought I'll start this thread for Daz Studio users like myself to discuss the merits of getting Poser Debut.

Please don't turn this thread into a "this is better than that" slagging match!

The main reason I can see for a Daz Studio user to get Poser Debut is so to fix up some of those nasty Poser files (mostly the free content made by others) that don't play nice within Daz Studio. LOL.

Also I notice it comes with 2GB of content. Sweeet!

However I notice from the promo images several "Rooms" are missing from Poser Debut. I wonder if anyone has purchased it and can fill us in on this slim down version?

I have been trying to buy it for the last 2 days but I just can't get pages to load, sign in page etc.I wonder if anyone else is having this problem? I would like to try it to see how it compares to Daz Studio and the 2GB of contents sounds good too:-)

Hi JenX,

I have, I wrote to them about not being able to log on and they sorted that out for me after a bit of a struggle:-) I'm waiting to hear what they have to say.

Hmmmm. Well it looks like we won't get a full reveiw till they fix the payment procdure. LOL.

The training videos included in the offer sound interesting.

Basically Poser Debut is the same idea as DS free, it's a player where you load premade content that you've bought or gotten as a freebie, and then hit render, which is completely useless for many in the community.

What got me about the whole think was the added fees that jumped the price to unacceptable levels (at least in my opinion) including that almost $9 fee to 'garantee' the digital download for 30 days. As I see if if I'm buying the digital version I pay and I get, I'm not waiting 30 days...

sylki ( ) posted Thu, 17 February 2011 at 1:01 PM

I bought it yesterday with no problem after the initial not being able to load any of the pages. I didn't get the 15% extra off, the guy at Smith Micro didn't know what I was talking about:-) I paid $29.99 for it (I think, I hope!) I've opened it and thats all, got a sick dog and can't concentrate on learning something new at the moment. Once everything is back to normal I will tell you what I think of it if someone else hasn't done so first.

Thanks Mike,

The vet and I think it could be a neck injury. Weight loss, head held lower than normal. occasional head twitching, he is scoffing down chicken but won't eat his normal food. Temp normal, no vomiting or runny tummy, no excess water drinking or urinating, nothing wrong with his ears or eyes. A mystery illness that is really upsetting me because I don't know how to help him other than give him pills and chicken.

Thank you so much for your good wishes, keep your fingers crossed that he is a bit better tomorrow.

Hugs

Chicken or chicken soup?

LBAMagic ( ) posted Thu, 17 February 2011 at 8:07 PM

Hi beaymac - Thanks for your info. I'm basically thinking of the Poser Debut as a tool to fix Poser files to work in DS. I have the full Poser but don't want to upgrade it everytime just to make some Poser files work in DS. I'll never give up on DS and looking forward for the realease of DS4.

Hi Faemike55 - I've never been happy on CP's policy to pay extra for guaranteed downloads up to 2year. That's why I buy most of my content here are Rendo (& Daz & RuntimeDNA).  Having 2 harddrives fail in 1 year I was happy I can download again products I bought at Rendo. I know I should backup (and I do now). But that extra bit of service from Rendo gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling of security. LOL.

Hi sylki - Sorry to hear about your sick dog. Hope he gets better soon. I once worked on a mine site in the remote outback of Australia. One of the foremen had an injured dog and had to take it to the vet. The drive to the nearest vet was 6 hours! The Aussie outback is big. Just imagine the USA with only the coastal cities and nothing inbetween except desert and shrubs (and a lot of Kangaroos LOL).

@LBAMagic: I have double backup: one on an external hardrive and a copy of my content on another hard drive, plus, as soon as the price drops to acceptable levels - on a flash drive (mega large - lol)

I've heard too many horror stories about lost content

LBAMagic ( ) posted Thu, 17 February 2011 at 8:40 PM · edited Thu, 17 February 2011 at 8:41 PM

Hi Faemike55 - The horror stories are real! Sigh! I recently bought an Western Digital external backup drive but it's software (even after upgrade) failed to work properly with Windows 7. Will my harddrive woes every stop! Anyhoot I replaced it with a Seagate external backup drive that purrs along nicely.....for the momment. LOL.

For all my future content I will need a quantum memory storage device. LOL.

nothing wrong with investing the bucks and time to burn to DVD's either as well as all the baseline materials (.daz) images
