I could swear that my first assumption was right - the took the money and went to a nicer place.
Wish I were they....
Quote - > Quote - I still like the idea of using a Windows 7 VHD disk that I can backup to anything I want to back it up to!
Im not sure how this works and im a bit reluctant to try it, as i understand that when created to a usb drive it stores the name of that drive in the licence, so when doing a VHD disk doesnt it just use the hard drives name (the one it has in the bios)? so that ok you can tranfer the licence but not to a new computer later on ?
oh and i too have not yet received my licence....
I have no idea. Someone else said it could be done.
Quote - Well seeing as how I haven't bought a thumb drive yet and now I'm wondering if the VHD will really do what someone said it would do. I'm in no rush.
I wouldn't try it. The license generator uses the hardware id info from your hard drive, usb drive, or sd drive, and checks the id info in the license file and compares that to the hardware it is keyed to. If the values aren't the same, messiah won't start.
VHD don't have a hardware ID, but the system (windows) does generate information as if it were an actual hardware device. It could work for a long time this way, but it could also only work when first installed, and your virtual ID number could change the first time the computer is rebooted.
The greatest danger here is that you will have no physical hardware to prove that you have a valid license, and that you are not trying to run messiah concurrently on multiple machines. With a USB drive, if it dies you simply send it back to pmg and get a new key. You should never try to "key" any sort of software license that uses system hardware id info for validation to a virtual device that looks like a physiccal device on your computer (this includes a virtual machine). Sometimes, even the slightest change in the computer system will change this critical id information permanantly, and you will no longer have a valid license.
I hate to use "trust me", but seriously, trust me, I've dealt with numerous different software apps over the past 24 years, some use systems similar to what pmg uses for messiah. Virtual drives are not worth the risk!!!!!
Ohh....for people using Macs - don't use SD cards for your license file. The SD card ID info will change if you move the card to another computer (mac os doesn't use the actual card id, it's more like a virtual drive in that the id is "randomly" generated by the OS).

No, The Ray your thinking of was traded to Colorado to finally get his ring before retiring.
Just the way Lux does their license and how simple it is if something happens. No having to send your USB to them. No extra charge or hassels.
No I still have not got my license yet either. Still waiting and still reading about those that ordered later have got thiers. I only have a couple of days left on the demo. Hope it shows up before then.

Quote - Is anyone still waiting on a license, or is it just me?
Me too. I would guess that they are working their way through the list in serial fashion. It's a lot of licenses and their staff is small.
"Fortunately", I have other programs that I need to learn, to keep me occupied in the interim.
I'm going through Genetica tuts at the moment. I've been making asymmetrical tiles manually, and Genetica can make that process much easier and faster. The Studio version adds the ability to make seamlessly looped animated tiles, such as water waves, or flames.
I also have models which I need to finish and package for release.

A word of warning to those of you that haven't done your licence, plug the USB flash drive directly into a USB port and not through a hub (unless you have to) , Otherwise you will have a licence generated with the hub attached to your USB drive, and you will always have to have that connected as well, as i cannot connect my USB drive to a hub as i didnt do this in the first place.one less thing to go wrong, lol

*Most of the issues have been worked out and as long as you follow the instructions provided closely you should have no problems. pmG are still working through the long list of orders. If you have not recieved yours yet don't panic. You have not been forgotten. . . we love you. . . hugs for everyone!!!!! :-) Thank You! *

Quote - I just hope when it does come it comes with a read me explaining how to hook up it's junk, toast, donggle thingy. I haven't seen a clear explination yet, and I see lots of people complaining it's not working.
this was posted earlier
"We discovered a bug, in the PHP web language (not our code), that generates wrong numbers for certain client ids who drive info is above a certain number range, leading to licenses that don't work. We have created a custom function to fix it, and are in the process of trying it. If your license file contains the lockid: CB2147483647B29 this is causing the problem. Many other people have generated their license fine, and are unaffected by the bug. There is nothing you have to do yet; we will check the license text for you and see if we can reset it, so you can generate it again." - pmG

I, too have mine. I did per instructions and put it in hard drive (I think).
Works like a charm for me.

Finally got mine. Now I have to find out about os. I installed on my workstation but it is xp64. My next build will be win 7. The license won't work between the 2 only one os. I'll have to see if there is a way to move it over to the new os when it's time.
On a brighter note. The 64 bit seems to run a little better than the 32 bit demo.

I also worried when I saw that "Once your license file is on your (flash) drive, you can move that drive to any machine with same OS" (emphasis mine) because I have Win XP Home x32, Vista Ult x32, Vista Ult x64, and Win7 Ult x64. But I tried it, and a dongle key made on 32bit WinXP works on Vista 64bit and Win7 64bit, and vice versa. Apparently, "same OS" only distinguishes among Windows, Mac OSX, and Linux.

I received the email, licensed messiah to a vhd and it works without a hitch. This saves me a usb stick/port and the danger of losing the license due to hardware failure.
Whether vhd works or not can be easily verified by running the messiah license utility on the vhd, the same id is returned everytime, even on a winxp pc with a third-party mounter.
Of course go with a usb stick if you are unsure, it is just an alternative for more adventurous folks.
seachnasaigh. That's good to know. Thanks. I asked at Messiah forum and wegg said yes but never really made it clear about versions of os.
testingrocky. Go to the messiah site and click on videos. A bunch of free ones that I was using with the demo. Also in the forum someone has posted a pdf of the online manual. I have been going through that as well.
I went and spent the $20 on the setup tab membership. Might as well. The last 2 weeks have be a joy playing with this with Modo. Messiah is the part that completes Modo. I have my eye on that walk plugin.

Did you ask around before doing this or just jump in and do it? My next question is, how big is the file? No sense making a VHD larger than really neccesary right?

Thank you, I found it. Rellay nice it must have taken him a lot of work!Quote - hi dale!
drooling over the 'grab and move/rotate controls or something else?
Hi Opera! Yes. There are just so -many- goodies there! Hard/soft IK, softbody, hair, autorig, etc etc etc.... Getting the figures out of Poserland and into Messiah is definitely going to be a challenge (not really wanting to spend $99 on the Decimator plugin for DS3, but DAZ figures at least =are= way too polygon heavy overall), but once done....talk about a speedup of workflow.... Of course this will change said workflow; more shot compositing and less 'import into Vue and render'. The one area that concerns me is the shader system; I haven't gone hunting up documentation on it yet (unless it is in the 901 page pdf one of the longtimers at setuptab put together), but atm this makes 2 systems to wrangle with, Vue and Messiah... Hm. If a Poser mesh will slow Messiah, a Vue terrain would freeze it solid. I wonder if you could export a Vue terrain (Not a procedural, fgs...), take it into something like modo and decimate it enough to retain the shape you need, and major tree locations, and import =that= to use as a locator for keying action in the outdoors, then compositing it with the original scene? Experiment #1453 on my list.... And yeah, I sat for like half an hour last night just grabbing and moving the camera gizmos, just enjoying the precision and ease and accuracy.

If you ask around, people will tell you that it doesn't work. I am confident enough to take the risk and jump in. Anyway you can use the messiah license utility to verify that vhd does have a consistent key id for messiah.
The license is just a few lines of text, paste it into a text file and save it. The file size is <1kb. The minimum size of a vhd is 16mb though.
yeah i expected to hear and find that the over-wroght Daz figures will slow down Messiah.
There are lite versions of both V4 and M4. I'll be investigating that.
Can you subdivide in Messiah? Many of my scenes are face closeup with dialog, facial expression and lip sync. I can afford to "go decimated" on all but the face for those, but I am going to want to subdivide V's face to get more detail.
Can always take her head out to Wings to subdived, I guess.

In your planned workflow, after animating, what is it that makes you want to take everything into Modo? The renderer?
...the walk plugin...is that a walk cycle plugin? is it an add-on for Messiah? I guess it would not be for Modo.

Opera, V4 17K should have plenty of resolution for what you need and should work well in messiah. I hope to give it a whirl when I get more time to experiment in a few days.
Kevin
EDIT: There are other discussions on the forum that lead me to believe that messiah doesn't have as many issues with DAZ models compared to Poser models.
Quote - Hi,
Anyone know of any good free video tutorial of messiah?
Thanks in advance
Here's a good one to get you started. Even though it's older, messiah hasn't changed that much.
