Subject: guide to use DAZ figures in Poser? help needed!

possesed ( ) posted Tue, 22 February 2011 at 2:57 PM · edited Tue, 10 December 2024 at 6:34 AM

hi there,

i´m absolutly lost in an urgent project using a DAZ figure in Poser.

all i wanna do is create an figure that i´ve already bought from DAZ. it´s Hero Toon 4 ( http://www.daz3d.com/i/shop/itemdetails/?item=11217 ). i just want to create this exact figure, using different poses and faces. the faces that i´m told to be usable are these: http://www.daz3d.com/i/shop/itemdetails/?item=4571

well, doesn´t seem to hard for an experienced 3D worker (cinema 4D) but it doesnt work out. i think i´m missing some fundamental understanding how to use a DAZ figure in poser. i installed all necessary files in poser (or at least what i think is necessary..) it´s: Michael 4 Base, Hiro 4 Base , Hiro clothing bundle , Hiro Toon , Aiko Toon and Hiro Toon Expressions and Hiro Toon 4. the stuff shows up in my poser 8 library but i wasn´t able to create this figure. i started with hiro toon and hiro 4 (as long as there is no hiro toon 4 figure in the library) but wasn´t able to make hiro toon 4´s clothing fit (with conform to figure) and couldn´t use the faces. actualy there are a lot of different faces for hiro in my library that i couln´t apply. yes, i think i miss some fundamental in the use of this stuff.

can please somebody help me? is there step by step tutorial out there? all i did found is one that discribes how to install DAZ stuff into poser. this was very usefull. ...

many thanks in advance!

I don't have this specific product but I would suspect the general process would be this:

Open Poser

Go to Figures Library
Load M4 from the Daz People folder

Go to Poses Library
Inject the ALL morphs in the Daz Injections Folder.  This includes any Base morphs, Morphs++, and the Hiro morphs.

Go to the Hiro Toon folder (in poses)
Apply the INJ Pose.
Apply the MAT Pose of your choice (assuming there are several)

This should make the figure change from M4 to the Toon Hiro with the proper texture.

In poser, the vast majority of figures you will purchase (From Daz and Rendo) operate this way.  They are morphs of a BASE FIGURE.  You load the base figure first, in this case its M4.  Inject any morph packages you have for it, in this case, the Hiro morphs (and any of the additional morph packages like Morphs++), then you Inject the character you want to end up with, in your case the Toon character.  You can't go straight to that character.

You can, once you have it all properly loaded (minus clothing), save the fully injected and set up character back to your Figures library so you don't have to go through the whole loading process every time.  Then it becomes a one click deal.

DAZ copyrights the CR2 file (the figure file).  Because of this vendors can't distribute a fully set up M4 morphed character.  You have to go through the loading process and then inject the morph into the loaded character.

Hiro Toon 4 is a custom morphed character for Hiro 4 so no additional DAZ morphs are needed. You simply load Hiro 4 from the DAZ People folder in the Character library, go to the Pose library where the Injection morphs for Hiro Toon are located. Select Hiro 4 base and then double click on the face and body injection pose. That should inject the Hiro 4 Toon character.

Oh, and here is why the faces won't work. This product http://www.daz3d.com/i/shop/itemdetails/?item=4571 is for Hiro 3. Hiro 3 is an entire different figure and products for this version are not compatible with Hiro 4.

You can find Hiro 3 here:

do you know a way to make hiro toon´s sneakers fit for hito toon 4? i would tlove to change his slip on shoes to the sneakers...

If the sneakers are for the original, Hiro 3-based, Hiro Toon figure then the best way is to parent them. If the left and right feet are separate that's pretty simple - move each into position and parent it (from the Figure menu) to the appropriate foot. If the shoes comes as a pair, then it may be simplest to load two copies, hide the left foot in one and the right foot in the other and then proceed as above.

possesed, glad I could help.

Regarding the sneakers simply follow RHaseltine's description. Have fun with Poser, it can become very addictive hobby. :)

i´m already working in cinema 4d in the poser figure setting some high quality textures, light and rendersettings. looks cool!

by the way i´m using interposer for the import of poser files into c4d. crashes sometimes but is very usefull.

ok, there is one question left: i´m looking for some face presets for my finished hiro toon 4 figure (http://www.daz3d.com/i/shop/itemdetails/?item=4571). it´s pictured with some variations but they seems to be in the contant (may be they mede with dials). do you know wich faces would fit to this figure? i already bought this product:   http://www.daz3d.com/i/3d-models/0/aiko-toon-and?item=4632&cat=&_m=d  but it don´t work with hiro toon 4.

The first link goes to Hiro Toon based on Hiro 3, not Hiro Toon 4. The second product is made for Aiko Toon and Hiro Toon based on Aiko 3 and Hiro 3 - this does not work with Hiro 4.

You can make your own faces: select the head and look at the morph dials in the Parameter Palette. Simply play around with the face morphs and the expression morphs and when you dial up some faces you like save them to the Face library. :)
