Subject: Morrowind for Poser?

pedrv ( ) posted Wed, 23 February 2011 at 7:40 PM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 10:23 PM

So... I'm not really sure if to post this request, much less where to post it, but I'm trying to track down any poser ready (non-commercial obviously) models that are Morrowind themed, or asking if anyone with the talent is able to make some... especially for architecture. Even a helpful point in the right direction would be appreciated.

I don't have 3DS Max, which already puts that approach out of my reach (apparently there are tools that let Morrowind modders use 3ds max to edit in-game models). I've tried the Nifskope/dds file converter/obj approach, and the .objs are easy to pull from Morrowind's BSA files, but the UV mapping associated with the materials is baffling/crappy. I've tried about every approach I can think of in carrara, hexagon, and DAZ Studio, but to no avail.

I'm certainly not trying to rip off Bethesda (I'd like to use the models for noncommercial art with DAZ Studio, among friends), and I'm hoping that, like all the Star Wars / Star Trek / Comic book models that are posted as noncommercial, these could be posted as well.

that would be awsome if someone can get some stuff pulled together... the elderscrolls games and the fallout games are amongst my favourites :)

Cschell,

Someone did an awesome Pipboy in the DAZ Forum freepository. It's in OBJ format

but that is easy to poserize.

Unfortunately, the weird and unique Morrowind architectural style (giant crab city, the cantons, and the telvanni mushroom houses) doesn't seem to be a popular subject for the rendering community.

yeah that's mainly as most ppl are into steamp0unk and futuristic renders the medieval style and fantasy medieval aren't exactly top purchases around so most shy away from them

It's a shame if that continues to be true. The .obj files are very accessible, I just haven't figured out how to strip the existing UV map and segment the object for new mapping (but then, I really suck at mapping), or I'd do it myself.

Does anybody know if stuff could even be posted (listed as noncommercial of course) as freebies? Would it have to be remodeled from scratch (to avoid using the original Bethesda models)?

BTW, I'm really sorry if this is the wrong place to be having this coversation.

i grabbed the pipboy a few days back... looks really kewl... now all we need is a vault suit to go along with it... lol...

as for morrowind/elderscrolls... i know bethesda has gone a long long way to make fan mods a part of the design of the game... maybe a quick email to them would get you an answer on if you could use the stuf and how.... from what i've seen in the community they're fairly approachable or atleast would seem to be... i've been  fan since way back in Daggerfall days...
