That is one area where Vue is lacking an in-program solution. You can make them from lots of little cylinders, but that's a bit of a PITA and not exactly very efficient. That said, I've made most all of mine in Modo as it's pretty quick and easy to whip up some cable forms and then export them as .obj files.
At one point I had a freebie set of cables as ready to use .vob files - not that it helps you make them, but I can dig those up if there is any interest :)

Thanks JCD...I would like to take a look at those cables you got and will check out Modo.
yeah metaballs works, time consuming but do-able :)
I made custom rope texture, easy to change colour to make it rust, thinks its freebie on my site
otherwise I use Rhino, as it's NURBS I can model very complex ropes etc ;)

Hi guys!
I was thinking about to render some biomechs - lol - but I'm not sure how to get wires/cables into Vue. I usually model objects in Wings but I'm looking for an easier way to get especially cables.
In my latest pic I used resized cylinders to make thick cables so I could do that but I'm not totally satisfied; it consumed much memory using hundreds of primitives. (cylinders)
In Bryce someone made 300 metaballs and linked them to a movie track/time line - lol - and it worked perfectly as a movable cable...I'm just looking for similar solutions if you have any...or suggestions about a cheap software that can make cables in an easy way; thanks!
