Subject: Help with M4,Jeremy Mat

adam35 ( ) posted Thu, 03 March 2011 at 9:00 AM · edited Fri, 08 November 2024 at 11:58 AM

I bought Daz's M4 Morphs and Elite pack a little while ago.After loading M4 base, I load

INJ Base M4, INJ Elite M4, INJ Morphs++ M4. At this stage I load Jeremy MAT_AO.

M4 Base's skin texture changes as is to be expected but, the texture is unnatural. It has a metallic sheen to it.

I would be very grateful for any help.

Is the sheen present when you render or just in the preview?  Can you post a screenshot?  What kind of lights are you using?

There's a lot to consider when you're setting up a render and, since I don't own this particular texture set, I'm just guessing right now.

Also, which Poser version are you using?  Important point when trying to solve a particular problem.

The appearance of Procedural shaders in Preview mode many times has little or no resemblance to rendered scene.

For this particular shader you should use OpenGL as Display Engine and have "Enable Hardware Shading" checked box.

This will also vary by video adapter you are using, some not giving fair preview no matter what, but in any case preview and render are two different things.

Just for example, here is Sreed Preview and OpenGL with settings as above

Thanks for the input.I am using poser 8.The figure ( Daz's Jeremy ) is still inthe preview stage. No render.

I hope the picture helps.Another problem I find is that often M4 becomes unstable after injecting base and elite morphs causing poser to crash.

Dunno about M4 - Did you run the initialze script?  What's yer OS? How much RAM?  By all accounts Poser and Vista don't play nicely together.  How about Poser updates?  You have all the SRs?

Re: Preview; it's just that, a preview.  Not necessarily representative of the render.  Else there'd be no need to render, huh?

I am using XP professional , 4 gig ram. Bought the poser 8 around September 2010.It has the update. It's just the preview.I have got a pic of it but I can't get it on the reply.

In general, you don't need to inject a whole bunch of morphs that are not going to be used.

In particular, the Jeremy injection pose has a readscript that put in the needed morphs for that character.  To get the basic look, you need no others.

As example on head, it uses "Jeremy" at 0.500 only.  If you inject all the other morphs, 22 of them have a value of 0.000 showing.
This is not saying others are not useful, they can be added as needed in developing scene.

If you have a marginal computer system, this can make a difference in the stability.

I still get an unnatural metallic texture when I apply the Jeremy MAT_AO to the M4 base figure.

Have you changed the preview settings as stated earlier?

If you have and problem still persists, it may be video adapter problem.  Does your card support OpenGL, is it enabled and do you have latest manufactures driver updates installed?

Cariad ( ) posted Thu, 03 March 2011 at 2:47 PM

So it only on the preview?  Or does he render oddly metallic?  The preview will look very different from the rendered result most often.  I have Jeremy, and when loaded, he is very  shiny in preview but renders as expected (somewhat lackluster IMHO).  The Poser materials for him are a bit shiny regardless even rendered, they need tweaking at very minimum, better to scrap the included shader entirely and use VSS.  But that is a separate matter entirely.

Remember, the Jeremy promos on Daz were rendered in DS and use the EHSS setup for him.  He does render differently with the included material set up in Poser.

I had to stop using one of the preview settings that I did for a reason similar to this (P7) because every time I loaded up VSS, my character would become completely white.

The odd thing is that one gets this unnatural shiny texture with Daz's Elite male characters viz. Jeremy,Lee and Sol but not with V4.

I have purchased a number of male and female characters and all take on great natural

textures , both in preview and render.I must say some artist's have produced superb

skin textures.
