I have Shades of Atlantis armour but even though I have lights all over the place and put a light right over the top shoulder plates, I can't get the gold/brown border and elements of the armour to glow a nice gold.

Please see attached fomy guy in armour and the light set up in then next post.

As can be seen in http://www.daz3d.com/i/3d-models/0/shades-of-atlantis?item=10398&cat=&_m=d he does get sparkle out of the gold trim but I'm not.

What would any of you do to make the trim sparkle like gold should?

part of problem is you have too many lights, and many have peculiar colors.

try not using so many, and stick with white lights

it's one of the studio light setsin Poser. I thought it would give enough light but it still doesn't seem to bounce off the plates on his shoulders.  And when I had fewer it didn't seem to be any better.

look at the product page again, it says rendered using IDL.

There is probably only two standard light in that scene.  The rest of effect would be from environment dome and maybe reflecting objects with high ambient value.

If there is nothing else in the scene to reflect, then there will be no reflection. You need a sky dome at least.

Oh, don't lights cause reflection? You need a sky dome as well? What does that do?

It gives something for the metal to reflect? Metal will reflect nothing if there's nothing to reflect. Make sense? ;) If there's a sky or something, the metal will reflect it. Otherwise, it looks like it's just shiny.

Online Now!

Also, what does material room settings reveal?  Does a reflect node exist for those material zones, or is the vendor trying to fake reflection by using a sphere node with an image map?  This is a very important consideration; if fake reflections is the case, then you will need to redo material zones to properly reflect the environment.  Yes, there are too many lights for the scene, those will slow down render considerably rendering with raytracing.  Lack of reflective environment, yes that is also true.  You need something to reflect, either a skydome or a room with proper, realistic lighting.  Also, you must use raytracing!

BTW, which version are you using?

It also looks like the metal parts do not have alt/specular/ansitropic added in the alt specular node. That'll make a huge difference.

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.
