The Poser Primitive, "Square Hi-Res", is very dense and intended for applications like that.  Try at least 30 frames and include "Ground" in the list of collision.

I made a cylinder, deleted most of it, and kept the part that wrapped around the cross.

Ran the simulation, and this is what I came up with. The dynamic cloth settings I used should be in tact when the prop is loaded, but you may be able to adjust them to achieve a closer look to what you want.

Have you tried using the morphing tool and magnets?  You could position the hi res square around the top of the cross and then let the cloth room drop it down.

Here's a quicky using the hi res cloth and the morph tool.  No magnets though.

I would do this in two stages

  1. cross horizontal with cloth straight across the top bit

  2. run simulation until ends of cloth are down maybe 30-45 degrees

  3. Rotate cross and cloth together so cross is vertical.

  4. run new simulation from that point to complete the drapeing.

Very cool effect!    Gald I could be some help :o)

I messed around with the Y scale, and a lil more in the cloth room sim settings, and you can get it "thicker" with a few minor adjustments.

Main ones to adjust would be Stretch Damping, Shear Resistance, and Cloth Density. The 1st to numbers should go up(75-150), and the density should be around .0025
