Subject: Misplaced Poser CD!

wayneout ( ) posted Thu, 14 April 2011 at 5:53 AM · edited Sat, 23 November 2024 at 4:23 AM

I am getting a new computer. On my old computer, I have Poser 4,5,6, and 7.
I just want to put Poser 6 and 7 on the new computer. (Of course, I will have to
bring all the runtimes over) I have run into one problem. I cannot find the install CD
for Poser 6. The last time I used it was to put Poser 6 on my laptop. I have tore my
office apart looking for it. The only thing I found was the bonus content CD which in
my opinion was useless. As soon as my wife leaves for work, it is tear up the rest
of the house looking for it.  In case I don't find it, what would be my options?

Can I ask for a replacement download? I am a registered user and I have the product key and all that.  The thing is that I am not that popular over at Content
Paradise because of all the complaining I have done about Poser 7 freezing up on
my old computer. (I am hoping the new computer solves that)
Or, can I just move the Poser 6 program from my old computer over to my new
computer?    I would rather have a fresh install, but I will take what I can get>
I like Poser 6 better than Poser 7 on some things and all my PhilC is set to work
on Poser 6.

Of course, all of this might be moot because I might find the CD and then my only
problem will be getting everything put back in apple pie order.
Thanks,
Bill

I've copied Poser 4, 7, and 8 from one drive to another, so 6 should work, too. With 7 and 8 I had to edit LibraryPrefs.xml to correct the paths for the libraries, but, other than that, everything seems to work fine. You might have problems if you have full paths in any of your library files like Cr2s or Pz3s.

I've always had Poser in it's own partition and never had a problem after scrubbing the windows partiton when re-installing. Only thing you'll have to do is put your shortcuts in the start menu/ desktop and recreate any file associations. Also moved to bigger HDs the same way.

You can move Poser 7 by copying the directory over to the new machine, as I have done it twice.  I'd give it a try with 6.  In 7 you can recreate the start menu entries and fle associations by re-installing SR3 (Tell it to back up your settings)...

I have been working with the new computer getting everything transferred.
Poser 6 seems to be working okay.  I don't understand the part about the full
paths and file associations but everything seems to work.  As for Poser 7, when
I bought it I bought the thing where I could download it for a year or so.  So, I
just redownloaded it and it seems to be working. I really haven't had a chance to
see if it works better on the new computer.
Thanks for all the help.
