Subject: Locked content when importing to vue9

Sking ( ) posted Sat, 16 April 2011 at 1:12 AM · edited Sat, 30 November 2024 at 2:01 PM

Hi

Im completely new to vue. I have downloaded the free vue 9 application from the Cornucopia3d site. I have just downloaded a free vob file from rosity and I get the following message:

'This version of vue can only read content that is locked to your license. Non locked content will be replaced by dummy objects. If you wish to import non-locked content please consider getting the 3DImport module'

Is there a way around this or do I have to purchase this module?

Any help would be great!

Thanks
Scott.

Yes.  But don't buy the module.  Just buy at least the Complete version of Vue.  That way you are not throwing money at it repeatedly until you are at the functionality of Complete, and have spent more to get there.

You can buy the Import module, it isn't cheap, so you may find getting Esprit straight away cheaper than buying module after module, as Sahwn suggested. But Shawn suggests you get Complete, which is the top of the range for the Vue Artist line, and if you are new to Vue, and maybe to 3D, I think it's wiser to get Esprit. If you buy modules one by one, it will cost you more in the end. But if money is tight, it makes sense to upgrade one module at a time. Also, it's a good way to expand your possibilities as your Vue knowledge grows instead of having to deal with a lot of stuff you are not ready to use at the moment.

Thanks for you replys shawn and bruno. I think you both have given me good idea as to what I should do. Bruno, I have been away from the 3d art scene for a while now (around 4 five years) due to raising a family. Im not new to 3d art as I have a gallery here where my art is byrce driven. I tried to get back into working with bryce again and could not find inspiration. I saw the 3d world mag that had vue 8 for free. I thought wow the art vue generates is amazing. So here I am, I want to get back into creating and with software like vue I think it might be the one to get me back into 3d art.

Lots to learn but looking forward to it. Thanks

Cheers
Scott.

Vue is a great tool, you'll love it.

Yes, I remember you "sking" - Scott King - from my brief, but intensive Bryce period (back in 2002). You'll love Vue.

Go for Complete, like Shawn says. I have it, and I love it. A few limitations compared to Infinite, but since you're new, Complete is more than enough.
Two features that you'll really love (apart from the import feature): The ecosystems and the ecosystem painter. So cool!

No point in buying a low-end version of Vue if coming from Bryce.  Might as well stay with Bryce then.  If you are using Poser or DAZ Studio or Carrara or Hexagon, etc, then you will wish you bought Complete a least to do some amazing outdoor renders of your scenes.

Do not buy bit-by-bit, the total cost is way larger than get the corresponding bundle in one shot (get a piggy bank to save money, using PLE in the mean time to learn/exercise).

W.r.t. versions, nothing below Complete is really... complete so either get Complete or, if super dedicated, Infinite. B.t.w., Infinite maintenance program is quite nice, I have renewed it a few days ago for just 140 Euros.

GIMP 2.7.4, Inkscape 0.48, Genetica 3.6 Basic, FilterForge 3 Professional, Blender 2.61, SketchUp 8, PoserPro 2012, Vue 10 Infinite, World Machine 2.3, GeoControl 2

Also, the descriptions of the modules are missleading.  No need to over-pay so much for missleading modules that you think will be worth their asking price, in my opinion.
