Subject: Beginners Question on Sunlight Intensity

gtrdon ( ) posted Mon, 18 April 2011 at 8:28 PM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 9:13 PM

When I create a scene using any of the atmospheres, the sunlight is so bright it washes out the scene and character. I tried to find a intensity or or a power adjustment but all I can find for sunlight is atributes such as flare , color, etc... Could some one tell me how to reduce the intensity other than repositioning the sun. It seems that the sunlight does not behave like the others since there is no direct power adjustment...

Thanks

Never had this problem, could you maybe give more info.

What version of Vue, what atmo, any other lights, screen grab of settings might be useful..

Injustice will be avenged.

There a different ways to influence the intensity of the sun. Go to the Atmosphere Editor and go to the light tab. Under Global Lightning Adjustment for Dark and Bright.

The thing i always do is to make the shadows a bit more soft. Go to the sunlight object  and right click. Then make sure shadows is enabled.  Put the shadows slider a bit more to the left. This wil make the shadows a bit softer.

What you need to do is go to the sky fog and haze tab in the atmosphere editor, and either turn down the "Glow" parameter, or up the "scattering anisotropy" parameter. It's not the sun's intensity that is the culprit, but the amount of glow around it. If I understood right, that is.

You may also check the "Post render Options", often the atmospheres come with an embedded "Autoexposure", untick that.
All of the above should also be checked of course. Maybe post a render?

Thanks to all for your helpful replies...

The  Atmosphere Global Lightning Adjustment for Dark and Bright fixed the problem. Thanks.. I was thinking that the adjustment had to happen in the Light Editor instead of the atmosphere.  The light shadow softening  adjustment was good tip also.

The "Glow" parameter  was already low the "scattering anisotropy" was high. So

changing them did not change much. The problem seemed to be that the Global

light and adjustment was way out of kilter. I 'll play around with these anyway.

Thanks
