Hi

I've been using makehuman for a while now, and would like to be able to use my creations in Poser.

So could anyone explain to me how to import from makehuman to poser

Export the geometry as an OBJ file.

If you want to make figures rather than static props, you'll need to add groups (using a modelling app) and then rig using Poser's built-in tools.

thanks

which modelling app would you recommend?

depends on what works for you. There's several for free; Wings 3d, Blender, anim8tor, etc. Some aren't too out of line if you have money, I think Hexagon isn't too expensive, and then you can go for hundreds or thousands like 3dsmax, Maya, etc.

If you need further suggestions, Daz3d has a forum called 'freepository' with a sticker for thousands of different programs in it.

I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

Blender would be the app to use, I think. I am waiting for Makehuman to Poser compatibility, and I am hoping that one could import the rigging as well via collada. Eventually anyway, if it doesn't work yet. I can wait. I'll let other brave people do the pioneering work.

Poser 11 Pro, Windows 10

Auxiliary Apps: Blender 2.79, Vue Complete 2016, Genetica 4 Pro, Gliftex 11 Pro, CorelDraw Suite X6, Comic Life 2, Project Dogwaffle Howler 8, Stitch Witch

Here's a (probably crazy) idea...

I've wanted to try getting one of the make human figures into poser too...  Here's what I think might work...

  1. export the mh as an .obj file.

  2. load the obj file into some 3-d app.

  3. import V4's obj file into the app just for comparisons...

  4. Scale the mh object to the same rough dimensions as V4

  5. Run obj2cr2, using v4's pants as the template

  6. save the result to your library.

I have no idea if this will work, but it might be a cool experiment.

Blender has an Import - Export script addon for Makehuman. Not used it yet so no idea how good/bad it is.

A few years ago I converted an older version of the MakeHuman mesh to use the same rigging as V1, for use as a figure in 3D video games.  I shaped and posed the MakeHuman as desired, then exported as .obj.  Then I manually grouped the mesh and created a Poser figure using the .phi technique.  This is basically the technique BucmaTemar suggests, so it can work.  If you want to use an existing Poser skeleton, the trick is lining up the body parts correctly and applying whatever scaling may be needed.

Cage can be an opinionated jerk who posts without thinking.  He apologizes for this.  He's honestly not trying to be a turkeyhead.

Cage had some freebies, compatible with Poser 11 and below.  His Python scripts were saved at archive.org, along with the rest of the Morphography site, where they were hosted.
