Subject: Poser 6 renders better than Poser 7 with the same settings

I upgraded from P6 to P7 (OK, I'm a very late adopter) and am working on an Intel-based Mac.  Characters that render with crisp detail in P6, with the same render settings, have fuzzy detail in P7.  The link below shows the present render settings (of which I am aware) on both packages and the resulting renders with the same file.

At full size it's clear, particularly in the hair, how much sharper the detail on the P6 render is than the P7 render.  P7 is easier to work with, so I'd really like not to have to go back.

How can I fix this?

Thanks

Well for me Poser 6 was better and is better than Poser 8. So i can see what you're saying.

You should try the newest poser. I dont know which one it is but i hear it's good.

Poser8/Pro2010 ARE the newest versions. :/

Well if that's the case, i would go for Pro2010.

did P6 have texture  filtering ?  its on the image map node in the material editor. The default setting in P7 can leave some things a bit fuzzy.

Try setting it to None and see if things improve.

Grab this nifty script by SVDL which will allow you to turn off texture filtering for everything and just turn it back on for transmapped hair.  (Poser 7 texture filtering utility)

Also, I don't recall if P7 gives you an option for the post filter size and type.   If so, set it to 3 and to 'sinc' not the default 'box'.   Here's a screencap of PP2010 settings but if it's in P7 it will be in the same location probably lower right.

I find a combination of these two give crisper renders.

Kalypso,

Turning off the filters brought my renders back to life.  Whoo-hoooo!

Thanks a million!

Glad it worked out but don't thank me, it's all svdl :)
