Yep.
Clay lives in Joplin. His truck got totaled, and his mother had a VERY near miss inside a church (where other weren't as fortunate). But the word is that he is safe, and thankful for being alive
We've been watching this story in the UK. Our thoughts and prayers are with you guys over the pond.

Actually, the old Fujita scale (F), was replaced with the Enhanced Fujita scale (EF). Something they couldn't do while Dr. Teodoro (Ted) Fujita was still alive. Dr. Greg Forbes at the Weather Channel was a student of his. The Joplin tornado was officially classified as an EF5 by the National Weather Service. I was a trained observer for the NWS with Skywarn (Amateur Radio Service) for many years, and had 3 close calls in that time, just being in the right place at the right time (if you want to call it that).
Dr. Forbes has his extremely accurate Torcon index. While the meteorologist at CNN was giving a 10 - 15 percent chance, Dr. Forbes was giving a Torcon of 9 (90 percent). The guy at CNN was way off.
At any rate, I was giving my observation of the damage in the foreground of your photo, Clay.
Well I've had people from the east and west coast that always wanted to come here during the spring months and go Storm chasing, and I always tell them the same thing "you don't have to chase them, just sit on the porch with a nice cold beer and they come right to you" heheh. I never go by what the tv says, I check my dopplar radar and then just go outside and look up, I can usually tell when its gonna get bad. CNN cracks me up, even their regular news is half baked.

With Skywarn, mostly we would observe from our locations, like at home. Only rarely does anyone actually deploy to a different location for observing, at least around here. I agree with the weather scientists. They don't want a bunch of tourists clogging up the roads and placing everyone in danger. The watches in order of increasing severity are:
Severe Thunderstorm Watch (tornadoes are possible)
Tornado Watch (Conditions are right for tornadoes)
PDS Watch (Particularly Danderous Situation), where conditions are such that large long track tornadoes are extremely likely, along with very large hail, and high velocity straight line winds, and frequent cloud to ground lightning.
Where I live, you have to pay attention to how the trees are behaving in the wind, due to lack of visibility.
Laugh at what? Looks like Hiroshima after the A-bomb here and dumbass news people try to sugar coat it without having accurate facts of anything. News people ( not the local news teams) but CNN, the weather channel etc were asking people that were trying to find love ones and their belongings how they feel....WTF if they would have aske me that I would have said.."wait juuuuust a second while I dig through this rubble that use to be my home and when I find my gun I will let you know!"

I think that F2 is the worst we have had in the Mansfield, Ohio area (5 county area), although one can never rule out the possibility of an F3+ if the conditions are just right.
I think the companies require the reporters to ask that 'How do you feel' question, thinking that viewers want to know. What they do not realize, is that the viewers are just as ticked off by that question, as those the reporters ask.
Oh we get that over here... the "...how do you feel.." question.
Yeah, it makes me sick. If a reporter asked me that I'd give him/her an answer they would never forget. Any reporter who asks that question is an idiot, has no understanding of the situation, is running on empty and deserves a smack in the mouth.
