(Sorry to get this announcement out so late but I think there is still plenty of time to participate) For the month of July, Altered.Image is hosting three separate contests to be run simultaneously. For the 3D category, first place will receive Deep Paint 3D from Right Hemisphere. For the 2D category, first place will receive Deep Paint from Right Hemisphere. For the Web Design Challenge, first place will receive the nifty Flash editor called "SWISH" from www.swishzone.com and ANFY from www.anfyteam.com This new contest should prove to be an interesting one. The theme for this contest is "self portrait". All artists participating are required to make perhaps the most difficult image they have ever been asked to do...an image of themselves. We at Altered.Image understand that there are thousands of beginning artists who need a forum where they can compete against and share with their peers, not "high-end 3D editor using professionals" and on the same token, there are those 3D artists who need to express their gift in a three dimensional way. Therefore, we have split this contest into two categories, 2D and 3D. There are few requirements except for the following, any entry that was made with the help of any 3D editor, (Bryce, Poser, etc..) MUST be declared when submitted. If you choose to make your entry using 3D editors, you still CAN use 2D editors for post work etc.. If you are not sure whether or not a program you used is a 3D editor, please ask us. Artists may be asked for proof of no 3D editing. Only static images will be allowed (no animations please). The final submission MUST be no larger than 1024x768 in dimension and no larger than 300KB in file size. The 2D category will be for all entries made with 2D editors and/or all other mediums such as pen & ink, oils, photography, etc.. No entries may have been published or displayed on the World Wide Web prior to June 08, 2001. All entries are to be submitted in URL form which means artists must find their own web space to upload their entries then email us at alteredimage@hushmail.com with the url to the image, the title (if any), the artists name, the artists email address, and state whether or not any 3D editors were used. Failure to follow these extremely simple rules may result in disqualification. No entrants may have won any contests at Altered.Image within the past two (2) months. No further entries will be taken after August 08, 2001 with the winners announced on August 09, 2001. This is about as fair as we can make it folks. This particular theme, "self portrait" I personally feel will be challenging if not difficult for artists participating. I am expecting to see a myriad of styles from impressionism to abstract and everything outside or in-between. Remember, there is the way we see ourselves and then there is the way the rest of the World sees us. How does one define oneself visually...? Good luck and we hope to see "you" there. Now onto the web designers challenge. This challenge is open to all web designers. Web designers may use any HTML editor but the over-all HTML, script, image, style, and any other associated files must collectively total less than 35 kilobytes in size and be entirely self-contained (employing no server-side processing). The theme for this contest is, "minimalism". Web designers are expected to incorporate this theme into their submission and the interpretation of this theme is completely to the discretion of the web designer (keep in mind these sites are being judged however). This contest begins July 08, 2001 and the deadline for entry is 12:00am EST, August 08, 2001. The winner(s) for this contest shall be announced on August 09, 2001. Remember, anyone can make a bare website design but to do it artistically and attractively is another thing. Good luck everyone!

I entered this contest 2 days before the deadline with 3 images in 2 contests. I work about 2 weeks on these images. They were not posted in the entry-gallery and I didn't get any reply on asking why not, even when I send this email to two different email adresses. A dissapointment.

Hello Elsina. My name is Frank Miller and I help out at Altered.Image, the host of the contest in question. First of all, Wow...you spent two weeks on a couple images, made the deadline, but never got them posted nor replied to about it. Your disapointment is valid and understandable. This is the first I or anyone at Altered.Image knew of this problem you had and allow me to explain why... ...Gem, the person responsible for the reception, coordination, and posting of all contest entries unfortunately was dealt a severe blow to communication and pretty much entirely "crippled" when she lost all of her hushmail accounts of which she used almost exclusively. I was told she immediately posted a notice to the Altered.Image main page and contest page (still there in fact) but by then the contest was more than half over. So as you can see, unless you were to return to the main page or contest page, you would never know about the problem and the new address to use. You more than likely are not alone in your disapointment as there very well may have been other entries submitted that we never knew about if they did not resend them to the new address that was posted in the notice. I have been asked to extend a sincere apology to you and to any other artists who may have been neglected with contest submissions that were on time but missent to the wrong address. Altered.Image is a non-profit artists resource website that provides educated opinions and other information on current software, hardware, and literature relevant to Computer Graphics and Art. I wish we could afford dependable re-directing email accounts and we are working on this for the future but as for now, I understand that does not help you and for that, I am deeply sorry however I assure you, had we known of your entries we would have posted them. I am sending you this same reply via email.
