the first thing i tried to do was size my preview window to 1500 x 844, it said i had to float the window first.  but as soon as i move the floating window it redocks.  i see that playing with the bar between the window and library, it'll resize,

but how's can i set precise size?

If you want to stop a floating window from docking, hold down the Ctrl key while dragging. You don't need to have the document panel a specific size to be able to render at that size (or aspect ratio).
The "production frame" shaded area will tell you what's going to be in the rendered image.

I'm not sure what you mean by swinging your tool bars vertically - in the example you provided, they're already vertical.  And without knowing what your P7 setup looks like, I'm not sure what to tell you on that point.

As for your Preview window, at the top-right corner of every window in Poser 8, there's a tiny little button you can click on and choose how the window behaves:

If you click on that button for the Preview window, check Floating, and then un-check Drag-Floating Enabled, you can customize the dimension of window without risk of it re-docking.

The only way is to resize so that the tool icons rearrange into a 1 x n vertical strip.
This means that you'll need to float the toolbar, and either leave it that way, or see if you can dock it elsewhere without a change of dimensions.
The Alt-click that accomplished this in previous versions doesn't work in the new UI.

i'm having trouble with Ryan's poses.  his upper arms from the back are distorting.

you can see it with his declining pose.

i'm getting frustrated already.  deep breath.

H'lo, Misty!  The document (preview) window is a bit irritating in that it seems to be determined to re-dock.  The trick is where on the screen you position it.  I often drag it up to the top edge.  If the empty dock area is highlighted blue, don't let go of the mouse or the window will redock (and resize as needed to fit).  Once you have the document (preview) window floated, you can enter precise numerical dimensions.  I have, on occasion, dragged on the docked boundaries to get a window of the precise aspect ratio (1.6), but that isn't easy.

If you have a second monitor hooked up, I like to float & drag most/all of the tool/control windows off to the second monitor.  This leaves lots of unimpeded real estate for the preview window, and the hierarchy and library can be made the full height of the second monitor.  If you have the display mode window and the manipulation tool windows floated, try dragging the bottom edge to heighten the window, then drag the side edge to narrow it.  I would guess that the buttons would likewise reorient vertically if the docked window were dragged to a tall narrow shape, but I've never had reason to try it.

Nytefall just showed you where to click to turn off Docking Enabled so the window will always be floating.

Thank you soo much for telling me about the Docking enabled thing.  It's all floating, now :D

just one more thing for p8 happiness,

is there any way to make the library thumbnails actual size?

it was lots and lots of work to add the promo pics to my library, most of them at 200px,
when i try the sliders for the thumbnail options, my 200px promos don't get bigger.

Cheers

Go under the Tree option and resize thumbs there

but that changes all the thumbnails.

how do i make them actual size?  the 200px thumbnails show at 200px, 91px show at 91, etc

Thanks!

Misty, I think from the dead silence you received on your last question, the answer is you can't. If I'm wrong, you are going to get a flood of answers on how to do it. Jan

here's a screenshot of what i mean.  on the left is P7.  right P8.  even when i try to grow the thumbnails, lil promo doesn't grow :glare:   it's like the RUSH song about the trees.

the new library floats the subfolders to the top, instead of the thumbnails, opposite of what it used to,

founding the option to turn off the tree, but there is no folder up arrow to click, so hadz to turn the tree back on.

is there anything in the UI directory or something, to let us use a customized library palette ?

can i paste p7 xml or something into the p8 folder?
