Subject: Photography Forum Challenge - July 2011 - "Vertical Lines"

skiwillgee ( ) posted Fri, 08 July 2011 at 10:22 PM · edited Fri, 08 July 2011 at 10:25 PM

These are all awesome.  I must dig through my shots to see if anything fits this challenge.  This is great.

(edited)  Do these have to be new shots made especially for the challenge or just shots never posted before?

Great shot! I always LOVE black and white... sets a mood like a colour photo cant.

And as for the photo stock... you CAN use from your archive, but we prefer you take new pictures for the challenge. The point is to try new things thats why its a "challenge" haha but this is an amazing archive shot and a great addition to this months forum.

Beautiful work, looking forward to seeing two more, Willie (Im still looking for 2 more, too!)

Great challenge! This is my contribution with a picture of "Ponte del Mare" in Pescara (Italy)...

Thanks to Lashia for suggesting me to partecipate with this picture!

dochtersions ( ) posted Mon, 11 July 2011 at 2:04 AM

Such great lines, and a beautiful view / sky too, behind!

I just posted this tonight, but it is very vertical, so here it is again.

It's the Spire of Dublin. :)

Hi Lucinda!

An impressive image of the lines on the road to the needle, which is blown up.

Great find and shot WOW !

The Giant's Causeway is a very vertical sort of place too.

myrrhluz ( ) posted Mon, 11 July 2011 at 2:49 AM

Thanks Jacomina! :)

I think I know why my pic didn't attach before.  I had an apostrophe in its name.  Once I changed it to Giant Causeway it did alright.

dochtersions ( ) posted Mon, 11 July 2011 at 3:09 AM

So happy you succeeded, Lucinda.

This again is a very impressing one, with wonderful texures in it too :)!

myrrhluz ( ) posted Mon, 11 July 2011 at 3:12 AM

Thanks again, :)

@Marco    There is a huge smile on my face! Great shot, I was right, a beautiful addition to the challenge, and I hope you keep Vertical Lines in mind when you're out with your camera again for another 2 shots!
@Lucinda   Great shot, not only of the rock but to get a 2 in 1 with this candid portrait. Also love the way the lines in the ground lead your eye to this GIANT tower. Great lines :-)

Great shots, with my PS out of order these last two posts are hard to push out! Awesome posts so far, and a great choice for this months challenge (it IS challenging!)   :-)

Great shots Tara! I love the one of the doors.  When my older son was about 3 he would have closed all the doors, continuously.  It drove my mom nuts!

Ora la mia terza , tra le varie possibilità , ho preferito uno scatto insolito tra le canne di Bambù , Trovate di fianco alla Certosa di Farneta ( panoramica postata a dicembre )

Now my third, among other possibilities, I chose an unusual shot among the reeds of bamboo, situated next to Charterhouse Farneta (overview posted in December)

skiwillgee ( ) posted Tue, 12 July 2011 at 7:36 AM

I really like that bamboo curtain shot followed by marigiannichini's bamboo curtain still growing.

Surprising great ones, Tara and Mario.

A joy to see them.

Lashia ( ) posted Tue, 12 July 2011 at 11:39 AM

@Willie    I AGREE!

@Tara    I love the first shot, same idea as my (ONLY) upload haha Im workin' on it!

@Mario   A great third upload, I love the darkness of the underbrush with the light just snaking through some of the trees

Great shots everyone. I have today off (so far) and my husband is at work, so maybe I will fit in some editing time amongst cleaning the house!!

I shot this new one for the challenge today.  A view of the transformer yard beside a power plant close to my house.

I chose B/W again because the color shot lacked appeal to me.  This way you can imagine in your own colors.

dochtersions ( ) posted Tue, 12 July 2011 at 1:13 PM

Superb image, skiwillgee!

Ottima scelta del B&W per dare maggior risalto alla scena ! Splendida Photo !

Excellent choice of B & W to emphasize the scene! Wonderful Photo!

@Real    Beautiful shots, I love the second one for its symmetry. Great POV

@Willie   Agree with Mario, the B&W is always a hit with me, beautiful shot.

@Mies   Beautiful clearity and sharpness in the shot, really enhances the colours

Magik, I love your two shots! That is one amazing fire escape.  Wonderful!

skiwillgee, Excellent shot! I like that some of the thingamajigs  are white and others black.  Great choice of B&W!

Jacomina, I think you talked nicely to your flower (or maybe you barked an order) to get it to stand at attention.  ;)  I love it!  Beautiful image!

This photo is taken on the facade of the monastery of Uclés (Cuenca, Spain) I think it is a good example of picture vertical lines.

Lashia  When I saw this I thought of the song "We are climbing Jacob's ladder".  It looks like it's going right up to heaven.  Excellent POV and shot!

dochtersions ( ) posted Thu, 14 July 2011 at 4:06 AM

Well, is this an intresting shot, Lashia. Great POV, the verticals are going very high :)
