Subject: riggining issues

nyguy ( ) posted Mon, 11 July 2011 at 9:39 AM · edited Thu, 12 December 2024 at 12:34 PM

I am working on a set of robotic arms. There are 23 individual parts to each arm and a "base" I would normally try to rig using the Poser Hirarchy Editor but not having any luck cause each part seems to fly off when I try to pose. Here is what it look like in the modeling program. I have tried different ways to rig, including PhilC's All Tied Up. Any suggestions?

Do you have a separate bone for each section?

Let me know when you get back "in front" and we'll make some bones for ya. 👍

It's easier than ya might think. 😄

If all parts fly off when using All Tied Up did you adhere to the instructions regarding placement of the model?

http://www.philc.net/AllTiedUp.php

The model must be positioned in the scene such that the length is anywhere along the X axis and is equidistant about the Y and Z axis.

It looks like your model is up in the air.

nyguy ( ) posted Mon, 11 July 2011 at 10:30 AM

The issue was not with your script but how it was modeled. I orginally modeled a start middle and end figuring on using your script but when I ran your script I got an error about something wrong with one of the meshes being out of range or something like that.

quick question on that Phil do the parts have to be all centered to the same location in the scene or off set?

All centered.

See Method 2 on the web page and the video and the example pieces included with the script.

OK got the files, thanks.

I imported the arm2, base2 and claw2 objects. They all arrived up in the air and off center they all need to be on the ground and centered.

I repositioned each one.
xTran -0.031
yTran -0.509
zTran -0.0055

Exported out each part and then used those files in All Tied Up.

Figured formed correctly.

New CR2 and revised OBJ files emailed back to you.

Hope that helps :)

Okay now I am to second part of my character making.

I want to take it and rig it to another figure so it is part of the figure, can it be done? I have seen where people have take the P4 horse and P4 figures and made a centaur out of them but I am not sure how.

Try positioning the arm where it needs to be then use the figure menu to parent the arm to the adjacent torso body part.

nyguy ( ) posted Thu, 14 July 2011 at 7:48 AM

What about the heirarchy?

I am also trying to reverse the the srm so it bends in opposite direction of the orginal. I can get it to work by rotation but now the figure I am working on looks clumsy and amature.

If you want it all as one figure then I feel that the best way will be to write a PHI file and bring it in that way. Joint centers will probably be correct for the most part. Then use All Tied Up to add the easy pose dials to the figure afterwards.

DOC OCT ARMS

This is what I am trying to build.

I am not sure how to build a PHI file, I know how to decode one.

Why don't you use the Poser setup room?

Did that orginally but the parts would fly apart. I figure since this was 90% made with PhilCs all tied up I'd use that.

**nyguy**, building a phi file is the easiest thing in the world. Download phi builder and read the instructions. You should be up and running in 10 minutes (not counting hierarchy setup.) Phi Builder can be found at the link.
