Subject: Dynamic mattress - new edition ;)

shuy ( ) posted Fri, 12 March 2010 at 5:03 AM · edited Wed, 25 December 2024 at 12:06 AM

Some time ago I've found this thread:
http://market.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?thread_id=2102851

It was great idea, but I did not like that edges of mattress are not dynamic. Figure cannot sit on bed, can only lay in the middle.

I've tried to solve problem. Here you can see results:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxxOex2p15E
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fz68QGctPds

Animations are very short but they should show effects not story ;)
If you find it useful I can explain process.

Wow! How did you do that? Details please!

Link to next clip which can explain almost everything.

Anyway just in case more tips below

  1. Created obj in Wings - remeber prop must have "open bottom".

  2. Under prop I placed windforces which hold mattress in correct shape.

First clip with jumping boy was created with 6 windforces, second with woman sitting on bed with 15. I set amplitude 0,5 and angle 50, range 0,5 turbulence 0.
I recommend place windforces first in rows and collumns and later translating prop along Y axis till dynamic calculation gives correct results. Then Parent all forces to mattress prop (now can be translated together.

Here is shown choreographed group. To be honest only top of mattress is dynamic, but figure can sit on edge and it move under buttocks naturaly.

For better results prop should have more polygons. "Smooth" in Wings should make this prop more suitable for V4. Mattress is easy to "close". Just duplicate prop in first frame, rotate 180 and translate -Y

EnglishBob ( ) posted Mon, 15 March 2010 at 6:55 AM

Wow. So it's working on the same principle as a bouncy castle? Keep pumping the air in, or it collapses. Very cunning, well done. :)

estherau ( ) posted Mon, 15 March 2010 at 8:14 AM

are you going to sell it? I would like to buy it from you.

shuy ( ) posted Mon, 15 March 2010 at 6:16 PM

You leazy guys :)

Creating this prop takes 15 minutes.
http://www.sharecg.com/v/40278/3D-Model/Dynamic-matterss

This is only upper part of mattress. You must create bottom on your own:
edit => duplicate => rotate 180 and translate.
But remember. Bottom must be placed after calculating dynamic. Another way windforce cannot affect upper part.

I want to create final version of "bouncing bed".

It require some improvement and additional elements. I have some doubts, because I notice that most Poser owners cannot use magnets. This prop require some knowledge about dynamic clothing, frame, animation etc.

Do you think that this is worthwile?

Wonderful!

I do think it's worthwhile. There seems to be renewed interest in the cloth room. More dynamic clothing is being created and people are actually interested in using it.

By request I created a video cloth room tutorial to show the basics of using clothing.

I think there are many who would appreciate a mattress that provides some realism.

I think I created ultimate version. Works well in P6 and P7

I need tester with P8, PPRO. Does anyone want to try dynamic beds and sofa?

Unfortunately I still do not know how to make dynamic back side of sofa.

It seems sort of like a weird idea, but I've wished for a long time that the direction of gravity for Poser's dynamics was a variable input.  That would solve many problems, simplify many complex clothing simulations, and allow new things like animating a deflating basketball using dynamics.

Sadly it's a feature I strongly doubt we'll ever see.

As it is, I think you'd have to animate the back of the couch separately, with everything involved in the sim rotated 90 degrees backwards to allow for the proper direction of gravity.  Then you could presumably use your current (and brilliant!) technique from the mattress.

Cage can be an opinionated jerk who posts without thinking.  He apologizes for this.  He's honestly not trying to be a turkeyhead.

Cage had some freebies, compatible with Poser 11 and below.  His Python scripts were saved at archive.org, along with the rest of the Morphography site, where they were hosted.

Second version of bed.

Direction of gravity is a most serious problem, but can be partialy solved. Dynamic group can be only front of back ( 😕 is it in English?). I do not want solve it this way, because it demands second simulation with scaling props (can be too advanced for most users). Top of back must be choreographed and would not bend under body parts - arms, head etc

I'm going to place this props as a my first products :)

I think I'l make armchaisr freebie as well.

estherau ( ) posted Mon, 18 July 2011 at 11:40 PM

There may be a way to save the simulation with the prop so that all the user has to do is collide with their V4 or M4 etc and hit animate.

I'm sure I have some products where the settings are saved with the product somehow.

shuy ( ) posted Tue, 19 July 2011 at 3:37 AM

I can create pz3 with V4 or M4. Pz3 include "collide against" list if there is figure saved. I think that I cannot do it, because, I cannot redistribute V4 or M4 character.

Collision list is deleted always, when you delete/change figure from your scene.

estherau ( ) posted Tue, 19 July 2011 at 4:55 AM

well I thought there was a way to save the collide against for the bits of the props that you need it to collide with and then the user can just add one simulation for their V4 etc.

PhilC would probably know.

shuy ( ) posted Sat, 23 July 2011 at 5:49 PM

Thank You GeneralNutts.

Shante props are ready, but I must change files format. Just checked PRODUCT SUBMISSION GUIDELINES and I'm extracting meshes from pp2 and saving as an obj. I hate it. It is like accountant works - "0" creativity and any misstake destroy whole prop.

I added double beds and armchairs.

shante ( ) posted Sat, 23 July 2011 at 10:30 PM

where shuy? Where do I get them...and are there good instructions a mentally challenged 5th grader will be able to follow (me!)?  :)

I think I've seen bunk bed freebie here or on sharecg.

Double beds means wide - see pict.

I've sent prop 3 days ago... I hope... This is my first release and I could click something wrong ;)

shante ( ) posted Tue, 02 August 2011 at 2:57 PM

looking good. have these been released somehere yet? looked on the freebies site last night for new released freebies but they weren't there.

shuy ( ) posted Tue, 02 August 2011 at 4:51 PM · edited Tue, 02 August 2011 at 4:52 PM

I've sent whole set to marketplace - 7$.

It was 9 days ago and I'm still waiting. I'm affraid that I did sth wrong. Uploading product is more difficult then modeling and adjusting.

Freebie low res mattres is still avaliable on sharecg - link on previous page.

shante ( ) posted Tue, 02 August 2011 at 11:10 PM

Yep!

I got that. Thanks so much.

Look forward to getting the rest of these cool items.

I jut hope they are esy to use in P7. I am Poser7 challenged it seems nd anything but the simplest of proceedures baffle me.  :(
