Subject: How do I make the lights move with the figure

mikeihde ( ) posted Tue, 26 July 2011 at 5:40 PM · edited Thu, 30 January 2025 at 4:54 PM

Using "point at" is fine but when the figure is really far away from where she started, the lights that used to light her from the front are now pointing at her from far away and from the side.

How can I make the lights lock onto her and stay at the same angle when I move her? Also, will new lights added after a move go back to the center or will they be in the proper position for her new location?

Parent the lights to the figure. In the properties panel for the light, second tab.

Can you not parent the light object to the figure you are using?  Either that or parent a third object to her and the light to THAT object.

I'll have to play around for a minute and see what I can come up with.

Sometimes I parent my lights to a poser primitive ball and that way I just have to move the ball.

Yea, Acadia,

That's kind of what I was getting at.  Sometimes you can use a 'control object' and parent that to the main figure.  Then you can animate the figure and have an extra level of animation/pose control with the control prop.

There's always a number of ways to skin a cat.  Not that any users here go around skinning cats.  Sorry, shouldn't have used that phrase ...

Infinite lights can't be parented, but if you convert them to spotlights, you can parent them, then convert them back to infinite. They will stay parented.

What a good tip!
