Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 11 2:52 am)
Meh. I'm more interested in the faster rendering times and those light emitter things sound cool.
WARK!
Thus Spoketh Winterclaw: a blog about a Winterclaw who speaks from time to time.

(using Poser Pro 2014 SR3, on 64 bit Win 7, poser units are inches.)
Tried to sign up for newsletter and offers and kept getting:
"An error has occurred.
An error(s) has occurred while trying to subscribe you to our contact list:
The answer you provided for the captcha image does not match the one in the form. Please try again. "
That was using Firefox. Tried again with Omniweb and sign-up worked.
All very odd.
Looks like P9 is ok for my G5 PowerMac; PP2012 mentions Intel chip preferred. After that I reckon all upgrades will be Intel not PPC.

Hmm..that is very odd. I used FF5 to sign up just this morning and no errors. The captcha worked fine ;).

Now, not being too interested in buying a whole new figure set up for Genesis, I'm wondering if we can't just fix V4's problems with the new weight maps and transfer them, and all the old morphs and such with WW (as mentioned in the video) to the clothing we've collected for her and have the best of both worlds with what we already have.
Quote - Skyrim is going to rock.
Rocking is a matter of personal taste. It looks better than the last games, but I've been getting disenfranchised with the series and bethesda in general.

Could very well be ;). We'll have to see how easily figures are converted and how well it actually works ;).
what will weight mapping do for man gens, realistic posing?

Actually, I disagree, for all its technological innovations it still doesn't look better than Morrowind--nevertheless it looks better than the trainwreck that was Oblivion.
On topic, I am so freakin'  psyched we finally get SSS! :D
SSS, is that sub surface scattering?

There IS something I'd like to know. If you can create weight maps for Miki 3 using PPro 2012's joint editor, can you do that with V4 and M4 too, or will it only work for SmithMicro figures?
If so, that essentially makes Genesis superfluous . . .
You know you have a point, but SM is calling them Content Creation Tools. With a name like that, I would think it would have to mean any figure, just like we have now in the setup room. You can rig anything.

i hope the $80 offer is also good for the box version?
i hope they got rid of that weblink error messge for computers not on the internet.
i wish i could afford a 64bit compy.
i wish they had like, wings3d style vert adjustment tool.
i wish i was a little taller, only 5ft in my socks.

While watching the video he USED Miki 3 and showed how easy it is to convert from capsule zone to weight map. All the gen 4 figures use the old capsule/sphere rigging, so I see no reason they cannot be easily converted to weight maps. Then you can go to work on tweaking those maps to your specifications. Â Also I can easily forsee pre made rigs in the future with weight maps for all the gen 4 figures. Â :)
Life is hard, but what a ride.
So... the weight mapped joint development tools are only available in Pro? There's a good reason, finally, to go with the Pro version.
Bravo, Poser team! :woot: I'm really excited about this.
Â
One wonders, however, whether this means we'll not see that long-promised final SR for P8.  Whether we see it or not, I certainly hope the various reported Python bugs will be fixed in the upcoming versions.

Cage can be an opinionated jerk who posts without thinking. He apologizes for this. He's honestly not trying to be a turkeyhead.
Cage had some freebies, compatible with Poser 11 and below. His Python scripts were saved at archive.org, along with the rest of the Morphography site, where they were hosted.
Hmm. Python 2.7 does not support Numeric, which module has been discontinued. But certain areas of Poser Python are built upon the use of Numeric. I would like to know how this conflict is resolved in these upcoming versions. Will all legacy scripts which use Numeric be broken? That would be a huge, unfortunate mess. :scared: All existing geometry-building scripts might have to be extensively rewritten, along with anything using Numeric for faster calculations.
Does anyone know what's going on with this? Stewer? ThinkCooper?

Tell me if I am wrong, but reading the page says about Weight Maps , I understand that any figure, even the figures that are divided in groups, like present poser figures, can profit of this new option, so you can add Weight Maps zones to any existing figure.
If it is correct, I think SM does it in the good way.
Â
Great new features, good reasons to update Poser.
Rendo forum states the V4 can be converted to the weight mapping as can all of the clothes. Same forum states that 2012 Pro has both 64bit and 32 bit programs, so it will run on 32bit
Same place, different thread BB, has some SSS renders on show.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 - Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .  The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.
SSS is very easy to use. I have posted a sample material, but basically and minimally it's one node for skin and you get 99% of the value. Please see threads at RDNA.
I switched from Numeric to numpy for my geometry building scripts in 2 minutes - only tiny changes were needed.
try:Â Â
   import Numeric
except: Â
   import numpy as Numeric
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Thanks, BB! I've been concerned about the eventual change of Python version for some months. I'm glad to learn that Numpy is so easily compatible existing scripts. :thumbupboth:

Thank you Smith Micro! These are HUGE improvements. Along with everything else Poser has to offer, a very good bargain.
These are really huge improvements. Doesn't look like anything much has been done to the cloth room, but I haven't really tapped that out yet in my version of PP2010, so I'll look forward to what sounds like significant gems to enjoy in the material room. Will matmatic be updated to reflect those changes, BB? Can't work without matmatic.
Also curious to see what sort of effect this new weight-mapping (which to me is an incredibly nebulous concept atm) will have on dynamic cloth, if any.
I know, so many questions! Saving up my pennies: this is an upgrade I need!

I don't see how it could really have any real effect on dynamic cloth. Perhaps weight mapping will allow better bending in the crunch zones of some joints, making it less likely that dynamic cloth would become trapped in a crease, creating simulation difficulties.  Otherwise, I wouldn't expect much difference in dynamic cloth from a change to the joint handling of figures.

Quote - Ok Weight Mapping sounds cool. But will the conforming clothes with weight mapping work in DAZ Studio?
I dont think so, any more than ever.
Â
Edit: I don't know if I am suposed to answer. You should ask at RDNA they can answer there.
Quote - > Quote - Nice to see they appear to be planning to release both Version 9 and Pro 2012 at the same time.
Indeed. Too bad this now means saving up $210 for upgrade PP2012 and Skyrim. :PÂ
Â
But it also means I can skip Poser 9 and go straight to 2012 Pro and save some money in this economic period!

Geez, lucky you... wish I were a bit shorter so I could avoid those bloody low-lying branches. Well, they are bloody from my encounters with them. And that's just the beginning of my wishlist - 5ft would be an awesome place to start, though...

I had to briefly go on IE in order to sign up. They need to fix this problem for Firefox users. I absolutely hate IE and have been using Firefox for years.

It could, in that you could have a vertex map that controls how flexible part of a piece of cloth is, but currently vertex maps are only used for bone deformations, whether bending or bulge settings, or bone scaling.
will conforming clothes be easier or more tedious with the weight mapping?Â
does this mean they'll have to stop using magnets?

Tedious how, to use or to create?
Magnets are completely separate from character rigging, although some rigs use them (V4, Sydney). Magnets just deform stuff for general purposes.
